Job Description:
The Wheel Lab Technician functions within the Product Engineering department to perform and manage product testing tasks in a lab environment and coordinate testing with outside testing labs. Accuracy of the test results and their verification with the test source is critical to drive decision making regarding new and existing products for the Arconic Wheel and Transportation Products business unit.
This position provides technical support to the global AWTP organization for the development of new designs and verification of product conformance on existing designs.The incumbent communicates with the engineering and technology department staff, Arconic Technical Center, process engineering, quality assurance personnel in all global manufacturing sites.
Internal contacts include the engineering and technology department staff, process engineering and quality assurance.  External contacts are with other Arconic locations including the Arconic Technical Center and outside testing labs.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The principal focus of this role is to perform setups on inhouse product testing machines and coordinate testing with external testing laboratories. Tasks and responsibilities as below:
  • Coordinate test scheduling on product testing machines – cornering, impact, radial machines internally and externally
  • Forecast and maintain the testing spend within allowable limits
  • Setup and run inhouse cornering fatigue test machine, perform dye penetrant inspection and record results
  • Coordinate maintenance of the cornering fatigue testing with inhouse maintenance staff and if applicable outside suppliers
  • Weigh the wheels, Mark the wheels with identification and Measure the wheels for specific dimensions
  • Develop and maintain audit test schedule for production conformance with all Arconic Wheels manufacturing locations
  • Record test results as supplied by external test labs and perform data retention of test data
  • Single point of contact for providing guidance on fatigue results to engineering and technology organization


Basic Qualifications:
  • Associates degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years product testing experience in a lab or manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. (IF NEEDED)
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. (IF NEEDED)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic working knowledge of Oracle software
  • Skilled trade education from a community college or a technical college  
  • Hands on experience with basic maintenance of test machine
  • Ability to physically lift wheels and perform necessary tasks as required in the test lab
  • Familiarity with entering data into Microsoft excel
  • Dye penetrant inspection
  • Able to communicate by email and phone with internal and external customers
  • Travel to outside test lab once a week and to Arconic Technical Center once a month
