Job Description

Effectively processes Titanium scrap by shearing, torching, blasting, sorting, blending and/or mixing. Utility Operators must be able to perform at least one group of the essential duties and responsibilities from the list below (and other duties as assigned) and must be able to successfully cross-train on all processes.

  • Perform routine maintenance on torches, hoses, and torch cut boxes.
  • Able to work on ladder 6’ to 12’ off the ground to change filters
  • Start- up of bag house
  • Regulate proper gas and oxygen units
  • Properly set up and operate torches
  • Follow all instructions noted on the work order
  • Verify weight and quantity of items produced
  • Meet sizing requirements
  • Maintain time and production records
  • Inspect materials
  • Have a clear and concise understanding of the mechanical functions of the torch and other potential hazards
  • Lift heavy material from hopper to table for processing
  • Dump, shovel or place material into chamber and start blast of abrasive
  • Adjust controls on equipment to regulate pressure and amount of abrasive blast
  • Pour or shovel abrasive material into feed hopper to replenish supply
  • Inspect material after blasting for cleanliness
  • Properly set up machine at start up
  • Perform routine maintenance on the blaster
  • Have a clear and concise understanding of the mechanical functions of the blaster and other potential hazards
  • Physical job including climbing onto the equipment and handling heavy material
  • Meet sizing requirements
  • Depress a foot pedal to operate machine while feeding material into the shear
  • Properly set up machine at start up
  • Follow all instructions noted on the work order
  • Verify weight and quantity of items produced
  • Maintain time and production records
  • Inspect material
  • Have a clear and concise understanding of the mechanical functions of the shear and other potential hazards
  • Remove heavy material from conveyor, container or table and place it in shearing zone for processing to meet size requirements
  • Sort material to size, particular process, and category within the plant
  • Sort material from one container to multiple containers
  • Be able to physically lift pieces of material up to 50 pounds
  • Improve productivity methods and the quality of the material being physically sorted
  • Inspect containers for cleanliness to prevent cross contamination of materials
  • Maintain time and production needs
  • Package and identify container properly
  • Blend, prepare, load and unload materials
  • Inspect the condition of the product to ensure quality
  • Perform operations as directed from verbal and/or written documents, such as production boards, procedures, work instructions, checklists and/or manuals
  • Operated equipment such as tow motors, scales, and computers
  • Maintain operating records, logs, and prepared inventory
  • Operate blending, conveying and scale equipment
  • Use various hand and power tools as directed

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
  • Work Environment: The employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and must be able to work in small or confined spaces. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in wet and/or humid conditions with fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud
