Arconic Enines in LaPorte In, is seeking a transport coordinater to work within our trucking and logistics facility.
 
Job Summary: This position is responsible for the control of all freight movement, truck, trailers and drivers for Howmet Transport Services.  Additionally, this position coordinates freight moving into or out of all Howmet Corporation facilities on commercial carriers. Ultimately building schedules and routines to maximize profitability and minimize cost for all Arconic Engines facilites.
 
Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Compliance with all Arconic policies/procedures.
  • Compliance with all EHS rules required at the plants and all DOT regulations for over the road operations.
  • Must be able to function as a member of a team, assist team members when needed and be able to work under general supervision in a fast paced environment
  • Availability to assist drivers with problems via phone after hours, as needed.
  • Interacts daily with all Howmet facilities, suppliers, and customers concerning freight pick-ups and deliveries via phone, email, text or IM.
  • Provides guidance to Howmet facility personnel concerning carrier selection
  • Arranges for commercial carriers to transport freight outside of the area serviced by Howmet Transport Services, Inc through internet based web tendering tools and/or calling carriers to arrange pick-up and delivery.
  • Schedules and coordinates all freight moving on Howmet Transport Services, Inc
  • Schedules drivers and equipment for Howmet Transport Services, Inc
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance schedules with the needs of the truck line
  • Reviews all trip information preceding the payroll and billing functions
  • Coordinates the dockworkers loading and unloading of trailers
  • Performs routine special projects, as directed.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement programs
  • Assists, when required, with other departmental/backup duties
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned
  • Work overtime, as needed.
     
     
    Essential Functions:
  • Prioritize and facilitate freight movement for all modes of transit, including but not limited to, small package, less than truckload (LTL), truckload, intermodal and expedite through Arconic Inc. contracted commercial carriers.
  • Facilitate equipment utilization and scheduling to maximize capabilities for Howmet Transport Services, Inc. (HTSI) – the APP internal fleet of trucks and drivers
  • Facilitate and coordinate driver schedules, trip planning for single board as well as team based operations for HTSI.
  • Coordinates dockworkers to ensure all trailers are loaded/unloaded to meet HTSI schedules
  • Ensure equipment is scheduled so that maintenance schedules are in compliance
  • Ensure accuracy of all trip information prior to processing.


Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:

  • This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Technical school course work in transportation and/or experience in the trucking industry would be preferred
  • This position requires a minimum of one year of dispatch experience in a common carrier or private carrier environment involving LTL freight. Willing to train the right individual with a strong desire to learn and succeed.

 

Prefered Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to assist in effectively interacting with customers, suppliers, or employees within the company
  • Ability to communicate effectively through all mediums – telephone, email, instant messaging and face to face
  • Strong organizational skills
