Job Description

The purpose of the Technology Commercialization Manager is to drive the front-end innovation activities through to commercialization, while protecting Arconic's intellectual property. This individual in this role will have a direct role in shaping the future of Arconic technology portfolio to align with market and customer needs, now and in the future.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Refine strategic business and technical information into integrated projects and business cases
  • Develop strategic relationships with Arconic businesses and external businesses, partners, start ups, etc. to foster collaboration on new business opportunities and ensure Arconic is aware of disruptive technologies and where our opportunities exist
  • Drive development and execution of detailed business plans and strategies that challenge the status quo for high-growth opportunities
  • Create and maintain an environment in which open innovation partnerships and entrepreneurial mindset are promoted and new business opportunities are developed
  • Oversee $1.6MM EBITDA (in 2017) standards business (PnL)
  • Marketing Arconic Technology Center and the Technology Commercialization initiatives both internally and externally
  • Generate, assess and manage an extensive portfolio of technologies from discovery to market engaging in a full range of commercialization activities including: research/analysis, IP management, partner identification and relationship management.
  • Develop and articulate the vision for front end innovation, execution of processes from idea generation, business case, transitioning technology into commercialization or licensing opportunities
  • Collaborate with and inform a wide range of stakeholders about the commercialization process when research should be protected, when research fits commercial product development, etc
  • Create maximum value for Arconic technologies by driving development of commercialization / IP strategies
  • Supervise a team of employees, providing mentorship, training, career planning, coaching and development
  • Collaborate and strategically partner with complimentary disciplines across Arconic, including Business Units, Legal, Finance, etc.
  • Collaborate with intellectual property (IP) and legal resources to drive the protection of Arconic's IP
  • Capitalize on a solid network in the technology/innovation arena to expand future opportunities
  • Conduct special projects as necessary
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Breadth in the areas of materials, processes, products, applications, designs
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to see the big picture and forecast 3-5 years ahead of what is available today
  • Project and/or program management skills paired with collaborative stakeholder management experience (internal and external)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create common knowledge, generate buy-in and influence stakeholders and senior management toward recommended decisions
  • Proven success in building productive relationships and facilitation with senior executives, key business leaders, and employees at all levels or the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to be able to communicate effectively to large or small groups, technical or non-technical audiences, and present written and oral materials in a concise and professional manner
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new processes, concepts and technologies quickly
  • Leadership, mentoring, coaching and collaboration skills
  • Technical aptitude in conjunction with understanding of finance, marketing, operations, strategic planning and strategic partnering relevant to Arconic’s global network, objectives and values

Basic Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in business, engineering, or science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 8 years’ work experience managing increasingly complex projects/programs in key technical/functional areas (ie. innovation/portfolio management, licensing, or commercialization) in a scientific/engineering environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in industrial, technical and/or research and development environments
  • Minimum 1 year experience managing direct reports
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
