Job Description

The Technical Specialist-Process Engineering Additive Manufacturing is is a hands on senior technical position responsible for leading and supporting AM process development projects enabling new materials and products for laser powder bed and blown powder technologies
  • The selected individual will lead or support metal additive process development projects based on laser powder bed and blown powder platforms and must have a good theoretical and working knowledge of these processes.
  • The selected individual will be responsible for metal additive process development based on powder bed platforms utilizing powder melting, sintering, fusion and bonding and must have a strong theoretical and working knowledge of these processes.
  • This position requires a broad understanding of materials, design, product development as well as additive post processes such as machining, heat treatment and finishing technologies.
  • The ability to influence outcomes and work within multidisciplinary teams to achieve the desired outcomes is a key accountability.
  • Experience in laser powder bed and blown powder laser additive manufacturing process research and technology development

Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Identifies and leads major projects that support technology-based business opportunities on metal additive powder bed platforms
  • Documents and reports progress to corporate and BU project stakeholder
  • Links process developments to materials and properties and identifies opportunities for differentiation including cost impact, customer impact etc.
  • Identifies and implements novel technologies and approaches that influence processes, materials development, design and manufacturing of end-products.
  • Leads, recommends and advances areas for key process development to improve fundamental understanding and create IP.
  • Networks internally and externally and uses influence to ensure best resources and approaches are used.
  • Monitors and assesses competitive threats and emerging technologies and initiates actions to reduce threat/risk and capture emerging technologies that benefit Arconic.
  • Provides functional guidance to engineers/scientists.
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Experience in powder based additive manufacturing process research and technology development
  • Experience with additive manufacturing process simulation and impact on microstructures and properties
  • Experience with aluminum, titanium and nickel material based alloy systems
  • Ability to use basic statistical methods to design experiments and analyze results

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with additive manufacturing of metals using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and blown powder laser deposition 
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD Degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
