Job Description

The Technical Specialist, Casting Technology will provide expert technical leadership and consultation towards the development and implementation of new technologies, as well as optimization of existing technologies, to Arconic businesses and customers in the field of aluminum casting.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Network with Business Unit (BU) and product/process market facing teams to help establish long-term strategic goals for the Casting Technology division, and influence BU and Business Technology leaders' strategies
  • Benchmark emerging technologies with potential application or threat to Arconic's businesses and initiate actions to capture those technologies
  • Identify technology gaps hindering business improvement, and optimal means to quickly and cost-effectively close them, to integrate into Arconic technology roadmaps
  • Accountable for successful transfer and implementation of technology in plants worldwide
  • Grow existing, and establish new, capabilities at the ATC and across the broader Arconic technology organization, to support Arconic business needs through training, development of technical tools, mentoring, researching, and identifying potential external resources/partnerships
  • Supervise the technicians and technologists working in the Casting Technology organization, with a strong focus on developing next generation leaders in the field
  • Assemble and lead project teams of internal and external resources to develop and deploy casting technologies to Arconic BU's
  • Provide continuing support to Arconic casting facilities, including technical problem solving, training, and development/implementation of best practices, enabling attainment of operational excellence improvement goals
  • Develop sustainable intellectual property for Arconic and ensure timely and robust protection
  • Communicate results through technology reviews, written technical documentation, and external publications/presentations
  • Explain complex technical issues in an understandable way
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Recognized expertise in the field of aluminum casting equipment, technologies, and practices
  • Experience in connecting technology development to successful implementation in a production environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills as well as the ability to influence others
  • Excellent problem-solving aptitude and tenacity to see through to solution
  • Demonstrated understanding of materials science principles: thermodynamics, materials structure, defects, bonding, diffusion, phase transformations, solidification
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles such as fluid flow, heat transfer, strength of materials, as well as aqueous and inorganic chemistry

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters' Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Metallurgy, or Physics from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in casting technology development
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or Physics from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in aluminum ingot casting technology development or related field
