Primary Purpose of the Job
This position brings powder science, material characterization, high temperature equipment and operational skills to support fine powder synthesis, powder processing development, and part fabrication enabling the Ceramic initiatives to support Arconic’s Defense and Aerospace businesses.
 
Major Activities/Key Challenges:
• Knowledge of raw materials, physical and thermal properties of inorganic material systems developed at the bench and pilot scale
• Mechanical and equipment aptitude including high temperature equipment and the ability to troubleshoot and enlist support of maintenance personnel.
• Problem solving skills and ability to think outside the box to contribute to material/process development and solutions
• Responsible for raw material and metal powder tracking system, material characterization and processing
• Accountable for organizing, documenting laboratory procedures, coordinating equipment and schedules within the operation
• Demonstrates ability to apply technical procedures, rigorous laboratory practices
• Requires clear, sound communication skills to technically interact with others.
• Provides information to other technicians, operational personnel as well as technical program managers
• Working knowledge of basic computer applications for data presentation (Word, Excel and Power Point)
• Experience in scaling up processes from laboratory to production
 
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education:
• Experience in handling and processing of raw material, powders and/or chemicals at the bench scale with limited supervision
• Strong analytical and data processing skills with a rigorous, methodical approach to assignment and safety
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and moderate or advanced skills in Excel.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with people from a wide range of technical disciplines
 
Major Customers:
• CSC scientists, ATC Sr. Program Managers and Division Managers, Arconic Corporate funded initiatives, strategic programs connected to Arconic Defense and Aerospace businesses.

Qualifications

Basic or Minimum Qualifications:
 
  • Associate's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or Chemistry from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Process Engineering and R&D. 
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience with chemicals and/or chemical apparatus.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in chemistry, material science, or ceramics with experience with material synthesis, chemical and thermal material properties and high temperature equipment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
