Arconic is looking for a Staff Technician-Boilers to join our Arconic Technology Center in New Kensington, PA.

Job Description:
The purpose of the Staff Technician-Boilers position is to aid in the design, operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers, steam systems or other mechanical equipment and all supporting systems in a cost-effective manner for the Arconic Technology Center. This will be done with a high regard for professionalism and open communication with all teams and individual team members of all disciplines. A proactive approach will be taken to assess possible future needs and requirements and yet allow response to immediate issues. This will be done while maintaining the highest of standards for safety and environmental concerns.


Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
  • Perform all work and conduct oneself in a manner that promotes the safety of the individual and all others at ATC. In addition, be aware of and protect the environment causing no negative impact.
  • Operate high- and low-pressure gas fired boilers and auxiliary equipment in accordance with Arconic, OSHA, NFPA, ASME and industrial operating procedures.
  • Read gauges, meters, and charts to track boiler operations. Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels.
  • Activate valves to change the amount of water, air, and fuel in boilers.
  • Perform water quality testing daily, document and adjust water chemistry as necessary.
  • Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance, and safety activity in accordance with industry standards.  This includes but is not limited to supply and return temperatures and pressures and a daily description summarizing boiler and related equipment operation.
  • Conduct boiler flushes and blow-downs as necessary.
  • Re-set / re-start boilers using the Allen Bradley HMIs as well as mechanical and other analog controls.
  • Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently and immediately report malfunctions, leaks, and out-of-parameter operating conditions.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and service to boilers and supporting systems for the reliable operation of this equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and effectively and efficiently make necessary repairs to boilers and supporting systems.
  • Perform construction and installation work for projects that are necessary to upgrade boilers and supporting systems that service the facilities and research projects at ATC.
  • Work with Engineering when requested. This is to provide support and assistance on projects for new installations or upgrades to existing equipment.
  • Requires being on-call for evening and weekend support when maintenance issues arise.       
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education:
  • Formal training beyond a High School degree. Skills and knowledge equivalent to a journeyperson in the craft trades or equivalent years of education and experience
  • Two to four years experience operating and maintaining low- and high-pressure boilers in an industrial or heavy commercial environment.
  • Moderate electrical background and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Be physically able and willing to wear and use an air purifying respirator.
  • Be physically able and willing to be trained to operate self-propelled man lifts.
  • Be physically able and willing to be trained to operate mobile equipment of various kinds.
  • Be physically able and willing to wear required fall protection.




Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Formal training beyond a high school degree from an accredited institution. Skills and knowledge equivalent to   a journeyperson in the craft trades or equivalent years of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years experience operating and maintaining low and high pressure boilers in an industrial or heavy commercial environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three to five years experience operating and maintaining low- and high-pressure boilers in an industrial or heavy commercial environment
  • Formal HVAC training beyond a high school degree from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years HVAC experience in an industrial or heavy commercial environment.
