Job Description

This position will report to the Manager of Automation Systems within DMAT and is responsible for providing systems engineering and design for automation systems in support of Arconic’s SMART Manufacturing strategies for plant production, R&D processes, infrastructure projects at ATC and our Business Unit customers while adhering to and executing a well-defined scope, schedule and budget
• Lead multidisciplinary teams to design and develop complex process computer systems and assist in the deployment strategies to transfer these standardized automation and control technologies throughout Arconic’s manufacturing facilities
• Lead the systems engineering and integration of process control equipment, database systems, software design and development for process control systems (PCS), and control operations related to manufacturing processes associated with major technology transfer projects.
• Work closely with Project Engineers, Maintenance, Contractors, Researchers, Operators and Business Unit project stakeholders to develop and deploy SMART manufacturing solutions across the Arconic Enterprise.
• Identify and engage qualified external partners to leverage Arconic’s technical resource capability to deploy internally developed SMART Manufacturing technology solutions to our manufacturing facilities.
• Integrate Smart Manufacturing concepts into Arconic’s industrial process control and information management system architectures.
• Provide expert consultation on the design and selection of SMART manufacturing solutions for Arconic’s processes located throughout ISA 95 Level 1 to Level 3 automation levels.
• Initiate, plan, and lead major technology transfer projects for Engineered Products and Solutions (EP&S), Global Rolled Products (GRP) and Transportation and Construction Solutions (TCS) business units and the Arconic Technology Center.
• Formulate project plans for projects he/she is leading as well as employ sound project management techniques to ensure that cost and schedule targets are met.
• Collaborate with EP&S, GRP, TCS process computer systems groups, and entities outside of Arconic to keep abreast of the latest automation and industrial control products and software tools to facilitate rapid and effective system deployment within Arconic’s manufacturing organizations.

Major Activities/Key Challenges
• Work closely with Engineers, Researchers, Environmental Health & Safety, Procurement, and Project Manager/Coordinators and Business Unit stakeholders to define project requirements
• Translate project requirements into feasible SMART Manufacturing solutions across the ISA 95 Level 1 to Level 3 automation levels
• Work with Engineers in devising execution strategy of the project and engaging in the technical discussion to achieve project solutions
• Be accountable when completing tasks according to committed delivery dates
• Participate in project team meetings and provide positive impact on project performance metrics and overall transparency of projects
• Participate in reviews of electrical Environmental Health and Safety Reviews pertaining to automated control systems
• Provide innovative solutions to stakeholders needs
• Devise task specific scope of work and direct contractors to execute project deliverables
• Develop relationships with external entities to help Arconic deploy and support SMART Manufacturing systems to meet the goals of business unit technology plans.
• Lead system analyses with potential customers in all business units to determine the implementation strategy for systems deployment.
• Lead the development of formal proposals and cost estimates for implementation of the systems identified.
• Lead software implementation of various projects using a Systems Engineering Methodology within an approved project management approach.
• Accountable for the development and delivery of project objectives and plans and reviews with plant production center leaders.
• Communicate progress/results through written detailed technical reports and presentations.
• Lead technology transfer projects for various business unit customers and for ATC and execute the implementation of these systems during production plant outages required for the delivery of the automation systems.

Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education
• Demonstrated experience of the INCOSE defined skillset for Requirements Engineering and Systems Engineering with CSEP (Certified Systems Engineering Professional) certification
• Demonstrated experience for developing major technology transfer projects to successful conclusions in either research or manufacturing facilities.
• Working knowledge and development of a digital thread and digital twin application in SMART Manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of development and deployment of systems in the Microsoft Cloud Azure environment
• Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management and Manufacturing Execution system design and application in an industrial work flow.
• Demonstrated skills in project management methodology gained from leading successful projects
• Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams to develop and commission complex SMART Manufacturing and digital automation systems
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop requirements analysis, function specifications, and project plans. Ability to communicate requirements for key project steps and project status to all levels of the organization.
• Software programming skills in C, or VB.net, experience in developing integrated software for real-time industrial control systems, expert knowledge of operation and configuration of SQL database systems, understanding of the capabilities of PLC equipment, working knowledge of Power BI applications development.
• Expert level skills in project management methodology
• Firsthand experience in developing and commissioning industrial workflow systems in industrial environments.
• Comprehensive understanding of commercially available industrial automation equipment, industrial data management software, and tools.

Qualifications


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in computer science, systems engineering or process control engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years firsthand experience in developing and commissioning PLM, MES and SQL database design in the support of Digital Thread and Digital Twin systems.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee


Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ experience working in application and programming of SMART Manufacturing systems across ISA 95 Level 1 to Level 3 automation levels.
  • Masters of Science Degree in computer science, systems engineering or process control engineering
  • Demonstrated project experience for delivery of SMART Manufacturing automation projects to successful conclusions in a production manufacturing facility environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of current commercially available digital automation systems, work flow management, database systems design and development.
  • Demonstrated system design experience for guiding technology transfer projects to successful conclusions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercially available workflow and database systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to develop requirements analysis, function specifications, and project plans.
  • Ability to communicate requirements for key project steps and project status to all levels of the organization.
