Since it opened in 1948, Arconic Davenport, Iowa aluminum facility has been at the forefront of American manufacturing. Nestled on the banks of the Mississippi River in Iowa, the plant employs 2,200 people and is a focal point of the global aluminum industry, with 25 percent of revenues coming from exports. Through continued modernization, including a $200 million investment over the past decade alone, Davenport has maintained its position as the world’s premier aerospace supply plant and is today the hub of Arconic $3 billion aerospace business. 
Arconic Davenport Works is seeking an experienced and talented Staff Mechanical Engineer to be a part of an exciting and dynamic team. This position is expected to provide technical troubleshooting skills to maintenance and operations to restore product flow, as well as provide technical leadership and training to craft employees. 

The Staff Mechanical Engineer is expected to provide technical solutions to recurring design, process and application problems, and analyze equipment and process data to identify opportunities and develop solutions and system improvements. 

In addition, the Mechanical Engineer will assist the maintenance department in short and long-term outage planning, and assist supervisors and crafts in following up on VPM issues and items from the daily management action register.  This person would also be expected to develop, manage and implement small capital projects, major repairs and maintenance projects and provide process engineering support.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Implement improvement projects to eliminate safety issues, quality concerns, and repetitive equipment failures;
  • Provide daily technical advice, problem solving and support to operations and maintenance;
  • Actively contribute in multi-discipline teams to investigate equipment or process failures, determine root cause, and implement corrective actions;
  • Assist in justification of new equipment;
  • Plan projects and coordinate installation with plant maintenance and production forces and outside contractors;
  • Adhere to Arconic EH&S, quality, continuous improvement and other company policies;
  • Assume other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as required;
  • This position will require the candidate to be flexible with hours, as hours for this role will be dependent on business needs. 



Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience working on rolling mill equipment (Mills, rolls, mill drive components, shears, table rolls, coilers, etc…), Aluminum, steel or Paper rolling preferred;
  • Strong maintenance background;
  • Experience in product and process failure analysis and an understanding of world class manufacturing techniques such as lean manufacturing, FMEA, RCM SPC, TQM, etc.;
  • Experience designing, installing, troubleshooting and maintaining industrial hydraulic and pneumatic systems;
  • Experience designing, fabricating and installing mechanical equipment;
  • Strong problem solving and creative thinking skills;
  • Strong written and oral communications skills;
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Hydraulic troubleshooting experience;
  • Ability to flex work hours as needed.
