Job Description

Provide engineering services to safely meet the Lancaster Mill business plan by providing engineering support to production, maintenance and administrative departments to achieve plant goals.


Coordinate all phases of assigned projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, bid solicitations and related bid meetings, equipment and facilities engineering/design, manufacturing and installation through final start-up, acceptance and project close-out.


Assist production, technical and maintenance with various types of equipment and process issues from an engineering perspective, particularly in the incumbent's specialized technical field of expertise.


The incumbent will take a leadership role in promoting and practicing Arconic Business System concepts and philosophies within his/her span of control and responsibility.

Capital / Major Maintenance Expense Budgets:


The incumbent shall participate in the annual development of the plant's three year budget process through scope development, solicitation for quotes and generation of the related project description and budget cost.


Project Preparation:


The incumbent shall develop a core cross-functional project team, generate detailed project specifications & Scope of Work in order to solicit all project cost estimates, generate detailed project progress schedule, prepare and submit for approval funding request (RFA).


Project Management:


The incumbent will safely manage all aspects of an assigned project.  The incumbent shall generate and submit recommended vendors and related work scope & cost to Procurement through the purchase requisition computer system, generate all contractor safety documentation & conduct all safety meetings as required, coordinate & oversee all engineering/design, fabrication of equipment, generate appropriate purchase requisitions for purchased items, generate appropriate work orders requesting assistance from maintenance, oversee all aspects of outside vendors performing on-site services.


Project Tracking:


The incumbent shall review the project's progress on a weekly basis to assure a timely completion of assigned project, as well as review, on a regular basis, the project's itemized costs to assure that the assigned project will be completed within the approved funding amount.

Project Close-Out:

The incumbent shall oversee that the finalized documentation is accurately generated by the outside vendors (engineering/fabrication/installation) and/or in-house resources, and appropriately distribute to the applicable production, technical and maintenance departments.  Finalize all invoices and accounting issues, as well as generate and submit the project's closing notice and project files to the Engineering Administrative Support Specialist for processing.


Engineering Services:


The incumbent shall provide engineering-related assistance, which primarily involves his/her specialized technical area of electrical/ equipment and related systems, to production, technical, maintenance, administrative, other engineering and management personnel, as needed.


Upward Organizational Relationship:


Project Engineering Superintendent - Incumbent reports directly to this position on a daily basis with updates and advisement of major issues & occurrences involving assigned projects.


Department Superintendents - Discusses, on a regular basis, the status of assigned projects in the respective areas.  Also, provides technical assistance, as requested, particularly in the incumbent's specialized engineering area of expertise.


Downward Organizational Relationship:


Senior Project Engineer - Provides guidance and suggestions of certain aspects of this position's assigned projects, particularly in the incumbent's specialized engineering area of expertise.


Design Engineer - Utilizes this position to generate concept drawings as needed for solicitation to engineering/design firms for further development.  Also, works closely with this position to generate general & detail drawings for projects assigned, usually on a small sized scale ($0 - $10,000).


Maintenance Technicians - Provides, on a regular basis, technical assistance, particularly in the incumbent's specialized engineering area of expertise.


FINANCIAL IMPACT:


Capital Budget: Magnitude between $10,000 and $5,000,000 with an impact of Controlling Management for assigned projects.


Purchases: Magnitude between $0 and $5,000,000 with an impact of Consultative/Advisory basis, via purchase requisitions.


Assets: Magnitude between $5,000 and $5,000,000 with an impact of Consultative/Advisory basis for assigned projects.

While this role works primarily daytime shifts M-F, the incumbent must be flexible to work off-shifts as needed to support the functions of this role.



Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BS in Engineering from an accredited college or University
  • 7 years of project engineering experience in manufacturing
  • 5 years of experience in project management
  • Experience with PLC control systems, electrical drive systems and electrical drive systems required
  • Possess a reasonable understanding of environmental control technology and production process with potential to impact the environment.
     
     
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or University
  • 10 years of project engineering in manufacturing
  • 8 years of experience in project management
  • Experience working in metals industry with rolling mills
