Job Description

  • This position will report to the Manager of Engineering Resources within Central Engineering and is responsible for providing control system support in the areas of troubleshooting, design, procurement, construction, and implementation of control systems and equipment for production, R&D processes, and infrastructure at ATC while adhering and executing to a well defined scope, schedule and budget
  • The incumbent will work closely with Project Engineers, Maintenance, Contractors, Researchers and Operators to develop, deploy and maintain control systems in the operation of R&D processes and equipment at the Arconic Technology Center
  • The incumbent will work closely with Engineers and Researchers in the development of scope, specification, cost estimates, design and execution of R&D and capital projects
Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Supporting and maintaining control and data acquisition systems for existing equipment and processes including but not limited to casting, powder making, roll milling, and furnaces
  • Develop and deploy new control and data acquisition systems for equipment and processes
  • Work closely with Engineers, Researchers, EHS, Procurement, and Project Manager/Coordinator to ensure timely response to Engineering Project and Operation Support Requests
  • Work with Engineers in devising execution strategy of the project and engaging in the technical discussion
  • Accountable to complete tasks by committed delivery dates
  • Documenting and managing changes to software, electrical drawings, and process instrumentation diagrams, scope, specification, budget and schedule through formal change management plan
  • ATC electrically qualified in execution of low voltage work
  • Participate in project team meetings and provide positive impact on project performance metrics and overall transparency of projects
  • Participate in reviews of electrical PEHSR pertaining to automated control systems
  • Provides innovative solutions
  • Devise task specific scope of work and directing contractors
  • Ability to execute tasks by splitting time in the office and in the field i.e. troubleshooting and maintaining existing processes and equipment; overseeing process modifications; equipment installations
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Working knowledge of temperature controllers, VFD's, PLC's, HMI's and data acquisition systems
  • PLC programming in ladder logic and function block
  • HMI programming such as FactoryTalk, Citect, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Rockwell Automation Logix PLC's, HMI's and VFD's
  • Ability to work with electrical schematics and Process and Instrumentation Diagram
  • Work with Design Group to maintain electrical control schematics and software program back-ups for both site and process equipment
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments while executing simultaneously
  • Strong critical, conceptual, and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong collaboration, decision-making, computer, written and verbal communication skills
  • Adept at functioning within a high performing cross functional project teams
  • Demonstrates a willingness to engage in technical discussion
  • Associates Degree in an applied electrical or process control curriculum

Basic Qualifications

  • Associates Degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years experience in process control and programming of PLC and HMI
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of experience working in application and programming of PLC based control systems Level 1 with some Level 2
  • Familiar with hydraulic schematics
  • Familiar with Siemans hardware and software functionality
