Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job:
• Position provides mechanical, plumbing, and corrective maintenance, fabrication, assembly and installation activities for the Maintenance Department at a large industrial/research type facility. This will be done with a high regard for professionalism and open communication with all teams and individual team members of all disciplines. A proactive approach will be taken to assess possible future needs and requirements and yet allow response to immediate issues. Maintaining the highest of standards for safety and environmental concerns is critical

Major Activities / Key Challenges:
• Perform all work and conduct oneself in a manner that promotes the safety of the individual and all others at ATC. In addition, be aware of and protect the environment causing no negative impact.
• Troubleshoot, make necessary repairs, and perform preventative maintenance to systems, process equipment, and facility infrastructure.
• Perform any assembly, construction and installation work required using hand and power tools.
• Must have basic mechanical, plumber, pipe fitting, and soldering skills.
• Read and comprehend mechanical and piping prints; utilize and execute documented procedures where appropriate and available.
• Utilize strong problem solving skills and formal root cause problem solving techniques.
• Safely operate mobile equipment, such as hand trucks, fork trucks, JLG man-lifts, and scissor lifts.
• Position requires incumbent to supply own assortment of necessary metric and standard hand tools, and demonstrate proficient and safe use of various shop tools such as drill presses, grinders, saws, pipe machines and other electric powered tools
• Work with Engineering when requested. This to provide support and assistance on projects, where the engineers are doing engineering for new installations or upgrades to existing equipment.
• Supporting the facilities and research projects is especially challenging because of the constantly changing requirements created by being in a research environment. The means by which researchers accomplish their goals is constantly changing and requires patience, understanding, and a willing attitude to do whatever is necessary to support the researchers in their efforts.
• Role requires working overtime and responding to call-outs as needed.

Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
• High School diploma
• Ability to work in a team environment and work with minimal supervision
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
• Be physically able and willing to wear or use an air purifying respirator, be trained to operate self propelled man lifts, mobile equipment of various kinds and willing to wear required  fall protection


Basic Qualifications:
• Formal training beyond a High School degree.
• Skills and knowledge equivalent to a journeyperson in the craft trades or equivalent years of education and experience.
• Minimum two years experience in an industrial or heavy commercial environment.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
• No relocation benefit is offered for this position. 
Preferred Qualifications:
• Vocational or trade school diploma in the mechanical field from an accredited institution
• Four or more years experience in industry or manufacturing
