Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job:
  • To provide accurate, timely testing of joining technologies supporting various Arconic R&D projects across multiple business units. Technologies include but are not limited to resistance welding, solid-state welding (friction stir) and mechanical fastening. Position will require independent operation of manual and in some cases of robotic joining equipment to setup, manufacture and verify joints for internal and external customer testing. Additionally, some light metalworking is required included small mill machining, shearing, brake press forming and mechanical testing. Documentation of testing procedure and results will be required.
Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Set-up, verification and execution of joining coupons and prototypes on a variety of equipment and process types to meet customer requirements for dimensional accuracy and quality
  • Supporting a variety of joining technologies and program managers with constantly changing requirements. Willingness to learn new joining, manufacturing and testing technologies to support these efforts.
  • Development and adherence to safe work practices for all tasks
  • Actively participate in Human Performance, preventative maintenance and housecleaning efforts of related joining equipment and work cells/area.
  • Maintain traceability of all incoming materials, manufactured and test specimens.
  • Document all work including test procedures, machine settings, pre/post joining requirements and final test results
  • Interact with customers, machining and testing groups to ensure an understanding of project and testing requirements.
  • Operate manufacturing and prototyping equipment including mill machining, lathe, drill press, shear, brake press, mechanical testing (instron type)
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of welding and joining processes including setting up equipment, performing, inspecting and testing welds
  • Ability to interact as part of a team environment
  • Self-motivated individual willing to learn and advance
  • Ability to consistently document procedures and test observations
  • Ability to work with Office produces (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)


Basic Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with Additive Manufacturing or CNC programming or equipment operation
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in engineering or equivalent experience
  • Machining and light prototyping experience a plus
  • Robot programming experience
