Job Description

  • This position is responsible for leading the Manufacturing Intelligence and Automation Technology group in the Arconic Technology organization and providing the technical guidance and direction required to define and execute Arconic’s corporate strategy around automation, intelligent manufacturing and engineering data analytics.
  • This role is responsible for: developing and maintain core talent and capabilities in digital and physical automation, process modeling, sensing and measurements, data analytics and digital integration for the smart manufacturing operations; and ensuring timely, disciplined execution on the develop and implementation of the technologies needed to support long-term plans.
Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Bring level of technical breadth and depth in the application of digital and computational technologies to support positioning of Arconic as a leader in smart manufacturing implementation.
  • Develop and facilitate implementation of advanced technologies in measurement, NDT, process control, modeling, simulation, engineering analytics and advanced automation and robotic solutions to support/optimize BU automation initiatives.
  • Influence strategic direction and leverage technical synergies across all businesses (GRP, EPS, TCS) to facilitate BU/RU knowledge transfer and best practice sharing and maximize deployment of technology and value capture in production operations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and leverage external thought leaders, industry organizations and universities to benchmark, and provide access to state-of-the-art technologies for application in Arconic operations.
  • Build and maintain strong company-wide technical liaisons with Arconic operations and technology organizations and with external suppliers of automation and smart manufacturing technologies
  • Objectively evaluate and direct work executed by ATC and internal technology partners to ensure it is thorough, timely, innovative, and aligned with business goals and value.
  • Develop talent to fit current and future needs of ATC and act as a talent pipeline to other organizations within Arconic
  • Work with ATC Lead Team and BU leaders to assure needed resources are available and work is planned and prioritized to align with company strategy and goals.
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • PhD degree in Engineering or Material Science
  • 10+ years of experience in research and development in metals or manufacturing industry
  • Extensive breadth of knowledge in digital and physical automation, process modeling and simulation, process measurement and integration for smart manufacturing
  • Strong exposure to full manufacturing operations of Arconic or similar manufacturing operations
  • Strong exposure to development and application of R&D projects in an industrial setting
  • Demonstrated strength in leading large multi-disciplinary teams on complex technical projects
  • Demonstrated strength in directing technical portfolio development and aligning technical strategy
  • Demonstrated strength in leading and supervising diverse resources

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Material Science from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in metals processing industry.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Material Science, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in metals processing industry
  • Breadth of knowledge in digital and physical automation, process modeling and simulation, process measurement and integration for smart manufacturing
  • Applied R&D experience in an industrial setting with proven track record of implementation into manufacturing
