Job Description

Primary purpose of the position is to provide technical support relative to the development of new clad and brazing sheet products for aluminum heat exchangers, to work collaboratively with internal and external customers on production and application issues, and to assist with day to day lab operations of Arconic’s Heat Exchanger Material’s Technical Center.
 
Major Activities / Key Challenges:
 
• Develop and complete R&D projects for materials development along with guiding implementation in collaboration with technology, manufacturing and commercial team members
• Provided technical support to operations, sales organization and end customers to understand and resolve quality or performance issues pertaining to clad products
• Conduct bench-scale experimental projects which support the development new clad materials for application to heat exchanger and adjacent markets, with focus on automotive, residential and commercial heat exchangers
• Identify opportunities and implement innovative solutions to improve the evaluation methods for the development of clad materials
• Identify opportunities for improvements in clad materials processing within manufacturing facilities and at customer locations. 
• Participate on multi-disciplinary teams, including members from Arconic Technology, manufacturing and commercial  organizations to accomplish project work and implement solutions.
• Provide functional guidance to technicians and support team.
• Work with Arconic fabrication locations and across groups within the Technology organization to accomplish project objectives and implement solutions.
• Interface with external vendors and suppliers to get work scopes and timing for R&D work defined
• Communicate progress and results through written detailed technical reports, patents, oral presentations, and other publications

Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
 
• Knowledge in aluminum physical metallurgy, engineering properties and applications
• Experience in metallurgical and mechanical characterization of materials
• Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills are required
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Experience in product development gained through industrial research, product development and/or production environments
• Demonstrated ability to develop project plans and to execute to complete work within timeline
• Ability to work with resources within and outside of the program team to accomplish required work
• Ability to lead and influence at multiple levels in the organization
• Hands-on work required: Ability to apply fundamentals and technology into practical solutions and applications
• PhD in Materials Engineering or related field preferred

Qualifications

Basic or Minimum Qualifications:
 
• PhD degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 6 month’s experience in aluminum physical metallurgy and processing.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:
 
• PhD degree in Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) and 2-3 years aluminum-related work experience.
• Experience and proficiency with use of SEM/EDS and analysis techniques. • Demonstrated knowledge of aluminum sheet fabrication process.
• Demonstrated knowledge of aluminum brazing materials.
• Understanding of aluminum corrosion, evaluation and related areas.
• Understanding of brazing manufacturing processes.
• Project management proficiency.
