Arconic has an exciting opportunity for a SMART Process Control System (PCS) Engineering Specialist to work with Arconic’s Global Rolled Products (GRP) Center of Excellence (COE)) for SMART Manufacturing, to increase the use of digital and physical automation across GRP.

The SMART Process Control System (PCS) Engineering Specialist will provide engineering support for automation and process control systems as a member of the information and process systems team supporting the GRP SMART Manufacturing COE. Automation and process control system environments include all process computing technology hardware, software including PLCs, HMIs, Process Computers, Programmable Drives, SCADA Systems, Smart Instrumentation, system interfaces and associated devices/software.
This position will be accountable for engineering, development, programming, and support of these systems and assist in the troubleshooting and repair to minimize downtime/outages and return these systems to production as soon as possible. In addition to the engineering and technical activities, this position has accountability for project management, development, deployment, compliance, and life cycle management. This role may involve team leadership and/or contract resource management at various stages of projects and support lifecycles, and will have responsibility for the management and oversight of significant contracts with third party providers and partners for services as required.


This role requires travel, and the SMART Process Control System (PCS) Engineering Specialist must be able to travel internationally.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with plants to develop and execute Smart Manufacturing Projects to deliver $50M annually (equivalent to 1% revenue to increase ëITDA by1 pt) by increasing use of digital and physical automation across GRP.
  • Develop and help implement best practices for Operational Systems (L3 focused) that allow for Sustaining Gains and driving Continuous Improvement.
  • Improve existing Daily Management systems at all levels to spend less time getting the data and more time problem solving with the data.
  • Provide best practices regarding use of digital sensors to move to predictive reliability systems which will dramatically reduce unplanned downtimes.
  • Engage in initiatives for improving quality with improved data analytics including SQM, recipe controls, process controls, and digital thread.
  • Identify and copy/paste opportunities across the GRP plants to improve safety and labor efficiency with targeted physical automation implementation.
  • Support plant problem solving process related activities and information requirements
  • Participate in the development of strategic technical plans
  • Ability to work with and sometimes lead remote, globally diverse teams and achieve results in the process control and automation
  • Application of engineering and process control principles to manufacturing and facilities processes and equipment to enable safe and reliable operations and meet business objectives
  • Establishing metrics for process control and automation systems performance measurement and benchmarking
  • Work with the Center of Excellence (CoE) Operational Excellence and technology groups to ensure deployment of standard practices and technologies
  • Coordination of technical needs and services to provide common solutions and information sharing
  • Application and programming work, including oversight for work done by third party for common solutions
  • Support of the common solutions across multiple time zones and cultures and the establishment of effective support models
  • Management of assigned Arconic global resources, contractors, part-time assigned location resources, significant contracts with third party providers and partners for services
  • Assist locations in the development of funding requests for the deployment of automation and process control systems by providing common solutions, cost estimates and schedules
  • Conduct solid project management for deployment, support, or upgrade actions
  • Meet all required Arconic Audit, Engineering and Safety Standards, and compliance expectations for the development, deployment, and support of the process control and automation systems.
Note: The initial location will be Alcoa, TN, just outside of Knoxville, but the incumbent may eventually be relocated to roll out best practices in other GRP locations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or IT from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of experience in the engineering, development, commissioning and support of automation and process control systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree
  • Metals manufacturing experience.
  • PLC experience; familiarity with Rockwell hardware preferred
  • C++ programming experience
  • Project management skills
  • Communication skills in English (verbal and written) for global role with business, operations and technical personnel
  • Ability to travel 50%, including globally
