Job Description

The principal role of this position is to support adhesive bonding and surface treatment areas for Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Products market portfolios. This role includes assembly of structures using adhesives and subsequent testing as well as execution of bench top, pilot and plant level surface treatment experiments in support of research and development within the Material Interfaces & Surface Engineering Division.

Major activities/Key Challenges:
  • Produces and evaluates bonding samples for automotive and aerospace material qualifications and process development according to the relevant specifications.
  • Conducts chemical, electrochemical and mechanical surface finishing operations at bench and pilot scale.
  • Has the ability to work independently.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with strategic end customers to identify articulated and unarticulated needs.
  • May occasionally travel to internal or external customer operations to assist in problem solving.
  • Analyses, interprets and evaluates data.
  • Provides input such as technical data analysis to project managers/Engineers/Supervisor in project planning and scoping.
  • Coordinates activities related to projects within own functional specialized area.
  • Solve problems related to own or shared projects with input from supervisor or technical experts.
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education:
  • Fundamental knowledge of chemistry and surface treatments
  • Basic understanding of chemical hygiene and safe lab practices
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Ability to execute tasks independently and without supervision within objectives of program
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills/ability to think outside the box
  • Disciplined approach to capturing observations and/or test results in written format
  • Attention to detail and quality mindset embedded within daily working habits
  • Willing to accept new, challenging assignments and demonstrate the ability to maintain a good learning attitude
  • Willing to accept change and maintain a positive attitude in an ever-changing environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to network and collaborate across ATC and Arconic


Basic Qualification:
  • BS-Chemistry from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 1 years work experience with chemicals, surface treatments, adhesives or coatings
  • Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident ( i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • AS or BS Degree in Chemistry or other related Science or Engineering field
  • Minimum 1 years experience in surface treatments, adhesives or coatings for metallic base products or processes
