Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job:
  • This role will support Materials Development Division and the Heat Treatment & Fabrication Technology Labs within it to deliver growth opportunities for Arconic.  This is an R&D position which will involve working collaboratively with engineers and technicians within Materials Development Division, the AM R&D Group and the Additive Manufacturing Demonstrator, as well as across other divisions within Arconic Technology Center.
Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Preparing and managing work requests within Materials Development Division and in other Divisions, including Casting Technology Division, Analytical Chemistry, Materials Characterization, Machine Shop, Mechanical Testing, Digital Manufacturing and Automation Technologies, Colloidal Sciences
  • Submitting and managing build requests (including maintaining log of alloy development builds) with the Additive Manufacturing group
  • Providing information or services to others within division and across site
  • Collecting and organizing data aimed at alloy and/or process development into Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations
  • Preparing samples and performing optical microscopy, including quantification
  • Conduct micro- and macro hardness testing
  • Collaborating with individual engineers and with multi-disciplinary teams on alloy, product and process development
  • Conducting heat treatment work for Materials Development, Additive Manufacturing Demonstrator, and across ATC, including maintaining sample traceability, providing furnace run information and co-ordination of subsequent material characterization within ATC (could include machining, mechanical and/or physical testing)
  • Using all equipment in the heat-treat laboratory and Fabrication Technology including, but not limited to furnaces, ovens, water quench tanks, molten metal baths, fork truck, shears, drills, band saw, etc.
  • Is responsible for assisting the Additive Manufacturing Demonstrator with startup and operation of two new heat treatment furnaces.  After the AMD takes full responsibility for the furnaces, the candidate may serve as a backup for the AMD technicians
  • Supporting safety and quality initiatives by accepting accountability for assignments like work instructions, PESHRS, quality metrics etc.
  • Presenting results in multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Is responsible for performing quarterly temperature uniformity surveys, system accuracy tests, and calibration according to AMS2750 for furnace/ovens in the Heat Treatment Labs, Fabrication Technology, and AMD
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills gained through effective collaborations with broad range of researchers
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail demonstrated through experience with collecting and organizing large amounts of data
  • High level of initiative, learning orientation and critical thinking skills


Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED for an accredited institution
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position.

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in engineering or scientific field (egs. chemistry, biology)
