Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to operate and maintain the atomization, powder screening, and powder blending equipment used for the production of novel metal alloy powders at the Arconic Technology Center's R&D powder production facility.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Operate atomizers for the production of novel metal alloy powders.
  • Operate powder screening and blending equipment used to screen and homongenize metal powders to various size fractions.
  • Conduct thorough cleaning and inspections of atomizers, screeners, and blenders as part of normal operations and alloy grade changes to prevent powder cross-contamination.
  • Carry out operational, maintenance, and calibration tasks established for the atomizers, powder screening, and blending equipment.
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete quality documentation associated with the atomizers, powder screening, and blending equipment as part of an established quality management system.
  • Adhere to established work instructions and procedures associated with processes and equipment within powder production facility.
  • Develop work instructions for the operation and maintenance of equipment within powder production facility.
  • Produce, sample, handle, store, and deliver powders according to quality specifications and Arconic EHS requirements established for combustible and non-combustible metal powders.
  • Actively participate in internal quality audits associated with processes in the powder production facility.
  • Learn and operate the plasma arc melting unit for fabricating metal alloy rods.
  • Demonstrate fanaticism towards cleanliness by actively participate in daily, weekly, and quarterly housekeeping initiatives to showcase Arconic's state of the art powder production facility.
  • Follow all Arconic EHS rules and policies, including those established for combustible metal powders.  Bring safety issues and/or concerns to light and provide recommendations to resolve ongoing or new issues.
  • Attend and participate in Project Environmental Health and Safety Review meetings and monthly safety meetings.
Essential Knowledge & Skills / Education:
  • Basic knowledge of metal melting, handling and treatment
  • Basic knowledge of induction and arc melting
  • Basic knowledge of safe handling, storage, and operations with combustible and non-combustible metal powders
  • Basic understanding of hazards associated with combustible and non-combustible metal powders
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office with moderate to advanced skills in Excel
  • Willing to accept new, challenging jobs and demonstrate the ability to maintain a good learning attitude
  • Willing to accept change and maintain a positive attitude in an ever-changing environment
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact and work with people from a wide range of technical disciplines and backgrounds (i.e. strong team player)

  • Note:  This position may require shift work at some point to support a 24-hour by 7-day operation, including rotating and fixed shifts of various durations, times of day, and days of week.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or lab environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
