Arconic has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Market and Business Analyst to join the Aerospace Market Sector Team (MST), in the Strategy and Business Transformation (SBT) resource unit at our Corporate Center in Pittsburgh PA or Washington DC / Northern Virginia area. Reporting to the Director, Aerospace MST, the Senior Market and Business Analyst is a key member of the Strategy and Business Transformation (SBT) resource unit working in the Aerospace sector.

The mission of the SBT organization is to support both Arconic Business Units as well as corporate Resource Units with formulation of Corporate Strategy, Strategic Market Analysis and Commercial Excellence practices. This includes project execution to inform strategy decisions, maintaining global market forecasts for establishment and monitoring of Business Unit commercial plans, and deployment of commercial tools like SalesForce.com. The Market Analysis Practice has three Market Sector Teams: Aerospace, Ground Transportation, and Defense. The primary mission of the Market Sector Teams is to improve commercial effectiveness and support business growth targets through market and customer transparency, intimacy, and performance dialogue. The Market Sector Teams are a key resource for the offices of the CEO and CFO to maintain a current understanding of market performance and our competitive environment, to support decision making, and as a partner with investor relations.

The primary focus of the Senior Market and Business Analyst is to identify growth opportunities by conducting and supporting global market research, competitive analysis, regulatory analysis, strategic market planning, and evaluation of internal business performance metrics. The Senior Analyst has responsibility to influence cross-functional teams to promote an up to date understanding of Arconic’s current condition within the market and to identify and shape opportunities for business growth.

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for working with various stakeholders including Business Unit (BU) commercial leaders, Business Unit/Resource Unit (RU) technologists, MST leaders, Key Account Managers, Investor Relations and outside experts to accomplish the following:
  • Maintain a core set of fundamental industry data that is used for both internal planning and external communications
  • Provide regular updates to MST participants and other market stakeholders on market performance and market trends to support BU planning activities and growth strategy
  • Develop models for efficient analysis of market based data
  • Manage and assure accuracy of the market revenue modeling tools and processes,
  • Validate market and business concepts while developing domain expertise and key contacts both within and outside of Arconic
  • Develop relevant & timely business insights
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary growth teams in identifying growth opportunities
  • Support marketing and communication with prioritized data analysis
Major Activities

Market Sector Forecast Data: Maintain and improve a consistent industry data set that is used for both internal planning and external communications. This would include but not be limited to information that supports:
  • Build-rate forecasts expressed in both units and dollar value
  • Market transparency at both the industry and Key Account levels
  • Quarterly financial reporting exercises
  • Modeling of Arconic sector performance as a function of platform value, market shares, pricing, etc
Strategic Market Analyses:
  • Profitable Growth: In support of the assigned MST (i.e., aerospace, defense, ground transportation), assist to drive profitable growth through business case development, key account support, and international trade show planning
  • Project Support: Conduct a variety of analyses that are sponsored by organizations outside of SBT. The expectation is that as much as 20-30% of the Senior Analyst’s time may be spent in support of “special assignment” programs managed by the BUs or other RUs covering business case development, technology surveys, competitor “deep dives” and other analyses in support of investment decision making. The Senior Analyst will take a leading role on the analysis in these projects and is expected to provide a well-developed view of the market
  • SharePoint Stewardship: Be responsible for the content and maintenance of the Sector Sharepoint site that is used to house information made available to internal users. The MST Sharepoint is one of the tools used to ensure a consistent market viewpoint across the company. The data and analysis provided is primarily the responsibility of the Senior Analyst
  • Process and Tools: Be familiar with and apply a broad range of analytical tools, processes and frameworks in general and with those of the Arconic Commercial Advantage (ACA) toolset in particular. Support the internal DI (Degrees of Implementation) system to develop, track and report financial impacts on specific MST growth initiatives. Create model and dashboard to convert large data sets into key indicators on status of deployment against growth targets
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • Strong Excel skills are absolutely essential, particularly market forecast modeling
  • Strong critical thinking ability, exceptional analytical and financial acumen
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex information then communicate the narrative in a clear and concise format
  • Strong project management skills with a self-directed, results-oriented aptitude
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and customer demands and operate with autonomy
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for building relationships with external customers leading to an in-depth discovery of their current and future product/service and business needs
  • Domain knowledge. The Senior Analyst ought to have / rapidly develop a fundamental understanding of the aerospace industry to include major products, competitors, market drivers and underlying technologies amongst others
  • The candidate must engage, motivate, and influence other individuals not under his/her direct supervision including an ability to work in a complex environment and convince people through influential and non-hierarchical means
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills including preparing and delivering large group presentations including competency in PowerPoint

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Science or Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3 years of analytics experience
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Marketing or Mechanical or Materials Engineering
  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an analyst is highly preferred
  • Aerospace domain knowledge: a fundamental understanding of the aerospace industry including major products, competitors, market drivers and underlying technologies
