Arconic is looking for a Senior Forging Design Engineer to join our Arconic Wheel and Transportation Products (AWTP) business unit in Cleveland, OH.

Job Description:
Under the direction of the AWTP Process and Design Manager, this position is accountable for Forging Design Leadership:
 
  • Efficiently and effectively create new and improved forging and tooling designs for the global AWTP business (CVW and FSW) utilizing globally standardized processes.
  • Provide leadership to the design engineering team to ensure the successful introduction of new forging designs as a subject matter expert in forging design and 3D CAD techniques as well as forging simulation.  Act as a mentor to entry level engineers by showing them how to most efficiently use the CAD and CAE tools.
  • Provide forging simulation leadership to the AWTP business and ensure that the tools provide reasonable accuracy to actual manufacturing results.  These tools will allow us to improve and shorten launch time to meet customer demand and reduce costs.
  • Lead design reviews of various new designs and ensure that multi-discipline approval is obtained.
  • Ensuring new and modified designs meet current design standards or that team or leadership approval was obtained to override design standards as necessary.
  • Ensure that systematic design processes are in place for consistent, reliable designs.
  • Manage revision control for the various engineering systems of new and improved designs, including but not limited to the Die Engineering Information System.
  
 
Key Resource for Forging Design Development / Process Improvement:
  • Member of the Process Engineering innovation development efforts and cost reduction programs.
  • Key resource to assist the development of new forging techniques and process innovations.
  • Consulting role in various AWTP initiatives as a manufacturing and design expert.
  • Provide leadership on the computer infrastructure for engineering including simulation software, CAD recommendations, and data control (PDM) systems.  Identify and implement technology improvements for engineering software.
  • Energizing and providing the mentoring and leadership to junior and less senior forging design engineers, ensuring that they do things the best way.
  • Resource for the pipeline of forging innovations projects.
 
As AWTP continues to move toward new and different forging processes, it will also be required for the incumbent to understand new design techniques and to be able to think and work outside of the standard design paradigms.  The Sr. Forging Design Engineer must possess the design and simulation capabilities to be able to support the continued growth and innovation of the business.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 1-year of forging design experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with DEFORM and SolidWorks
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of computer aided design including advanced surface and solid modeling, forging design including DEFORM simulations, mechanical engineering. PC skills are also required.
  • An overall knowledge of successful application of theories and principles of the process engineering function. 
  • Demonstrated timeliness and attention to cost effectiveness. 
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
