Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job:
  • The Senior Designer is responsible for design ideas and concepts through the development of high quality CAD design drawings and 3D models and takes into account the total design core (scope, conceptualization, specifications, BOM, design, cost, development, verification and validation).
Major Activities/Key Challenges:
  • Provide design support for conceptualization, design, verification and validation of mechanical and electrical construction, new process and equipment designs to satisfy customer, safety and code requirements.
  • Readily recognize issues and provide solutions to design and development during project stages and be proactive at resolving these issues at the source with the technical lead, project manager or engineer.
  • Provide functional guidance i.e. through assembly or construction drawings to other Arconic employees and subcontractors
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Educations:
  • Proven competence for applying engineering principles/computing skills to design projects
  • Proficient with AutoCad and Solidworks software tools in creating necessary electrical and mechanical designs
  • Ability to generate necessary electrical single lines, P&ID, piping, general arrangement, 3D models, and mechanical detail drawings, field assessment and verification and document as built conditions
  • Manages own projects
  • Ability to show how project goals relate to customer needs
  • Applies effective project management skills in managing own projects
  • Ability to work independently without specific direction and takes initiative in searching for information and understanding how to use it
  • Effective in understanding and interacting with others
  • Communicates the right amount of information within the timeframe needed by project team and customers
  • Consults with supervisor or technical lead as needed
  • Ability to check and sign-off on work performed by a less experienced designer
  • Develops, recommends and implements innovative solutions to problems and takes more responsibility in solving those problems.
  • May make recommendations on identified problems outside of own project

  • Central Engineering, Buildings and Grounds, and Research Units

Qualifications

Basic or Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Design or Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in mechanical and/or electrical design.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Design.
  • 7-10 years’ design experience.
  • Proficient with design tools such as AutoCad, and Solidworks 3D modeler.
  • Working knowledge of IBC codes and regulations.
