The Safety Management System (SMS) Specialist I provides consultation and technical guidance to design teams and management teams on near term and longer-range projects relative to product safety requirements and risk assessment and management, including applicable regulations and standards. Also considered are risk assessment of events occurring on released products.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities:
  • Understand and communicate regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Interact with regulatory and safety certification bodies as needed.
  • Review existing and anticipated product designs for products to ensure product compliance to safety regulations.
  • Develop project specific Product Safety Program Plans.
  • Perform safety analyses such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (SFMEA), Risk Assessments etc. as needed.
  • Provide input for development and maintenance of internal processes related to product safety.
  • Provide assistance to ensure Quality System programs, processes and procedures are implemented successfully.
  • Facilitate process/continuous improvement. Identify cost-savings and process improvement projects and move them from concept to implementation.
  • Create and maintain process flow, PFMEA, Standard Operating Procedures and line capability and performance documentation.
  • Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any quality non-conformances related to product, process and systems.
  • Provide technical inputs for incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years compliance / regulatory experience
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefer Bachelor’s Degree to be in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Quality Assurance experience in Aerospace or Automotive environment is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and manufacturing process skills/experience.
  • Analytical skills and understanding of problem solving techniques/tools.
  • Excellent Verbal & Written Communication skills at all levels required.
  • Perficient with MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrates integrity, credibility, and confidentiality required.
  • Safety Certification recognized by NSC, ASSE, or ASCE a plus.
