Arconic is currently in search of a Quality Superintendent to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) Operations business unit in Alcoa, TN.

Arconic’s Tennessee Operations, one of the most modern aluminum fabricating facilities in the world. Our plants produce high-quality molten metal and aluminum sheet, and are recognized as a world leader in the business. The facility has been located at the Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains for 100 years, and continues to thrive and grow. This role will report to the Manufacturing Manager.

The Quality Superintendent in Ingot is a Senior role with responsibility for adherence to corporate quality, safety, and analysis requirements across can rec, south ingot, and north ingot. The individual in this role must have broad and deep knowledge of ingot casting, down-stream interactions with processing, and customer quality requirements for rolled products fabricated at TN.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct supplier interaction, specification/analysis/interpretation of incoming materials, and consumption of the materials to meet ingot standards.
  • Guide operating personnel in Can Rec, North Ingot and South Ingot in conformance to corporate, automotive, and industrial quality standards.
  • Provide technical training, developmental objectives, sets performance goals, and provides direction to casting metallurgists and technicians, as well as, ensuring alignment with spectrometry labs on procedure and results.
  • Analyze process capabilities, production metrics and recovery, and product development planning and execution.
  • Responsible for the overall quality contract with internal and external ingot customers ensuring that all customer requirements are met, including at a minimum dimensional, chemistry, integrity, processing, and marking.
  • Translate customer and industry standards to production work instructions, develop new casting practices, and ensure accurate execution.
  • Provide input for project design and execution, equipment and service selection and specification, daily trouble-shooting, input to improve uptime and equipment reliability, and adherence to regulatory and Arconic EHS requirements.
  • Provide day-to-day technical advice, problem solving and support to operations and maintenance by applying metallurgical and engineering principles, quality systems tools to drive problems to root cause.
  • Initiate and/or implementing improvement projects including engineering solutions to eliminate safety and quality concerns, repetitive equipment failures and other major and minor issues.
  • Identify and/or implementing new ideas and cost reduction opportunities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years metallurgical experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with Statistical Methods, Engineering Calculations, Physical Metallurgy, Mechanical Metallurgy, Phase diagrams, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Metals Solidification Theory, Thermodynamics, and Material Processing.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the aluminum industry, specifically within rolling operations
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, or Management
  • Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Metallurgical experience with Automotive products.
  • Experience with heat treatable alloys.
  • Experience with rolling operations.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO and TS 16949 Quality System Standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross functional teams in development and execution of objectives
  • Effective program management skills with an understanding of and ability to utilize lean practices.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop employees under your direction.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Minitab)
