Arconic is looking for a Project Manager, Technology to join our Arconic Wheel and Transportation Products (AWTP) business unit in Cleveland, OH.

Job Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Technology, this position is responsible for managing and leading projects and activities related to the BU Research and Development area, supporting and leading special applied technology initiatives, and providing technical global support across all the BU locations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
This position provides technical support to the global AWTP organization for the development of new technology, processes and products, and continuous improvement to increase BU sales, margin, reduce manufacturing costs and improve the marketability of the product. 
Internal contacts include the product engineering staff, process engineering, production, quality assurance, sales and marketing personnel, and accounting.  External contacts are with other Global Arconic locations including the Arconic Technical Center, outside University contacts and technical consultants, AWTP’s vendors, machining sources, polishing sources, destructive testing sources, other outside sources, and customers.
This position is accountable for:
  • Proposing, developing and managing technical alternative to nurture AWTP product development pipeline and new processes, as derived from our BU Department goals, Marketing strategy, our defined objectives, and supervisor’s guidelines.
  • Providing leadership to effectively and efficiently manage R&D and related projects from conception to hand out to Launch, Manufacturing, and to Implementation, when applicable. The leadership will involve working with a multidiscipline team, under a matrix organization, and in a multicultural environment.
  • The use of Microsoft Project Gantt chart or equivalent, Critical path analysis, and budget vs actual expenses tracking are among the most essential tools for an effective project management. Articulate reporting, attention to details, assertive and substantiated information, and synthesis are attributes required for written reports and presentations.  
  • Interacting: Constantly with Arconic Technical Center (ATC), product engineering, die design, manufacturing, production planning, process engineering. Very frequently with marketing, outside sources, sales, Global BU technical personnel, Frequently with current or potential suppliers, academia, and Some Direct Interactions with End Customers  
  • Striving for continuous improvements of our R&D functional process, following and improving the Arconic Technology Advantage process, enhancing structured problem solving, the application of Six Sigma tools, and ABS tools or equivalent.
  • Assisting our Engineering and Technology Department, Marketing, and any other area that requires it in ad hoc technical requirement. When required, represent AWTP R&D in technical or related events.
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
The main challenge of this position is to develop alternatives and manage projects to constantly improve our new product development, using current, enhanced or new processes, framed within our Technology Roadmap and BU Business strategy. The incumbent’s efforts will focus on developing and managing projects related to develop these new product alternatives using internal facilities, Arconic main R&D facility (ATC), suppliers’ R&D departments, Universities facilities, and other relevant units, as well as creatively adapting existing technologies and processes to create value for the business.
The incumbent’s challenges specifically include:
  • Developing new product alternatives or enhancements following the R&D 101 guidelines and specifications. Manage the R&D project from conception to prototype, and implementation when required. Provide product samples, conduct necessary tests to the prove concept, develop supporting business case and prepare process documentation. Meet jointly defined objectives and targets for Revenue, Margin and timeframe from New Products.
  • Participate, maintain and improve the New Product Development process and system within the Marketing and R&D Department. Developing manufacturing-friendly process improvements and new processes.
  • Support other Engineering and Technology Department areas as well as Global BU technical teams, process engineering on leading Six Sigma, ABS, Structured Problem Solving, or other process improvement effort to reduce process variability and lower production costs and improve the product we are delivering to the customer.
  • Providing effective and efficient project management for R&D projects.
  • Identifying new technologies that can add value to the business and feed the BU Technology Pipeline.
The incumbent is expected to work independently and execute these challenges under the direction of the AWTP Director of Technology. They will also develop his/her own projects plans and execute them after review with his/her supervisor.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Engineering or an MBA
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Process Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Project Management
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or an MBA
  • An emphasis in the areas of aluminum metallurgy, coating technology, automation, systems, mathematical modeling, statistics, cost control and basic finance is required in addition to a strong technical background in engineering disciplines. 
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership skills and the ability to work independently. 
  • The ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Knowledge of the forging process and standard practices that would normally be acquired through extensive experience in various technical assignments.
