Job Description:
This position provides technical support to the global AWTP organization for the development of new technology, processes and products, and continuous improvement to increase BU sales, margin, reduce manufacturing costs and improve the marketability of the product. 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Technology, this position is responsible for leading and coordinating projects and activities related to the BU Research and Development area, as well as supporting, leading and coordinating special applied technology initiatives. This position is accountable for:
  • Providing leadership to effectively and efficiently manage R&D and related projects from conception to hand out to Launch, Manufacturing, and to Implementation, when applicable. The leadership will involve working with a multidiscipline team, under a matrix organization, and in a multicultural environment.
  • Supporting defined technical alternatives to nurture AWTP product development pipeline and new processes, as derived from our BU Department goals, Marketing strategy, Technology steering committee, our defined objectives, and supervisor’s guidelines.
  • The use of Microsoft Project Gantt chart or equivalent, critical path analysis, and budget vs actual expenses tracking are among essential tools for an effective project management. Articulate reporting, attention to details, assertive and substantiated information, and synthesis are attributes required for written reports and presentations.  
  • Interacting: very frequently with Arconic Technical Center (ATC), Product Launch Managers, product engineering, die design, manufacturing, production planning, process engineering; Frequently with marketing, outside sources, sales, Global BU technical personnel; Some direct interactions with current or potential suppliers, academia; Limited interactions with end customers.  
  • Striving for continuous improvements of our R&D functional process following and improving the Arconic Technology Advantage process, enhancing structured problem solving,
  • Assisting our Engineering and Technology Department with ad hoc technical requirements.
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
The main challenge of this position is to lead and manage projects to constantly improve our new product development, using current, enhanced or new processes, framed within our Technology Roadmap and BU Business strategy. This leadership includes the interaction with Product Launch Managers (PLM) to effectively coordinate prototype validation and ultimately the product launch by PLM. The incumbent’s efforts will focus on developing and managing projects related to develop these new product alternatives using internal facilities, Arconic main R&D facility (ATC), and other options as provided by the department leadership.
Key challenges include:
  • Develop new product alternatives or enhancements following the R&D 101 guidelines and specifications. Manage the R&D project from conception to prototype, and implementation when required. Provide product samples, conduct necessary tests to the prove concept, coordinate activities with PLM and prepare process documentation. Meet jointly defined objectives and targets for Revenue, Margin and timeframe from New Products.
  • Participate, maintain and improve the Technology Development process and system within the Marketing and R&D Department. Developing manufacturing-friendly process improvements and new processes.
  • Provide effective and efficient project leadership for R&D projects.
  • Identify new technologies that can add value to the business and feed the BU Technology Pipeline.
  • Be able to work independently and execute these challenges under the direction of the AWTP Director of Technology
  • Develop his/her own projects plans and execute them after review with his/her supervisor.
  • The incumbent communicates very frequently with Arconic Technical Center (ATC), with the Technical Department staff, and the production, process engineering, quality assurance personnel in all Global locations and manufacturing sites, marketing, outside sources. She/he communicates frequently with current or potential suppliers, academia, and customers


Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Engineering, or Aluminum Metallurgy
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. (IF NEEDED)
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. (IF NEEDED)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, from an accredited institution
  • Incumbent should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with aluminum metallurgy, coating technology, mathematical modeling, statistics, in addition to a strong technical background in engineering disciplines.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the forging process and standard practices that would normally be acquired through extensive experience in various technical assignments.
  • Demonstrated the ability to deal effectively with people under varying circumstances.
