The primary purpose of the Project Engineer, Casting / Foundry is responsible for supporting AWTP’s Horizontal Casting Manufacturing strategy to include planning, budgeting, process improvements and execution of projects within the manufacturing processes.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance with molten aluminum melting, handling, solid charging, aluminum chip processing, and combustible dust as well as molten metal cleaning, metal quality, dross management, proper tool handling, sow and drain pan management to ensure safe use during operation;
  • Provide leadership to effectively manage refractory repairs and replacement in the melting furnaces, toughing, casting equipment and define technical alternatives to improve refractory life and refractory care for operations;
  • Provide leadership to effectively and efficiently manage capital projects from conception to implementation via the use of Microsoft Project Gantt chart or equivalent, critical path analysis, and budget vs actual expenses tracking are among essential tools for an effective project management;
  • Effectively manage contractors’ safety JSSP’s, equipment, and personnel onsite;
  • Support production launch of project modifications on existing equipment or the installation of new equipment with lock out tag out and operational SOP and operators WI changes;
  • Lead cross functional teams defining engineering solution through problem solving for EHS, production, and maintenance;
  • Support maintenance with technical solutions with equipment issues, spare parts.;
  • Interaction with vendors to secure necessary services and equipment to maintain continuous plant operation;
  • Support plants and the plant management team meeting EHS, finical, production, and quality targets;
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests;
  • Possess strong project management skills / techniques;
  • Continuing to learn the craft of mechanical, electrical, controls and automation engineering, researching “state-of-the-art” and how it could be utilized on the manufacturing floor.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering, casting and / or foundry experience in a manufacturing setting;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in aluminum casting/foundry process and equipment;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience of melting furnace refractory maintenance and installation;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an engineer with knowledge in aluminum melting furnace operation, refractory installation/maintenance and combustion controls;
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience;
  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Auto CAD, Microsoft Project, RFA system, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
