Arconic is currently in search of a Product Metallurgical Engineer to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) Operations business unit in Lancaster, PA.

Lancaster Works specializes in aluminum sheet and cast plate. At our 1.3 million square-foot plant, we offer a variety of products--from painted sheet to blanked products. What we produce here is found in a wide assortment of end products, such as truck cabs, cookware and construction materials. We also produce brazing sheet used by auto manufacturers to make evaporator and condenser components. Another capability, for which we are well known, is the production of machined cast plate used in a number of diverse products, ranging from robotics to medical instruments

The Product Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for reviewing customer specifications, on line practice approval, and the investigation of claims and rejections, leading to practices that meet customer quality requirements while at the same time minimizing cost through assuring maximum operational availability. This position will require close customer contact, with the expectation that travel to a customer’s location will at times be required.

  • Reviews customer specifications and prepares formal letters of acceptance or exception.
  • Advises Sales, Marketing or Customer Service of product availabilities, recommending full Trial & Availabilities reviews for non-standard products.
  • Issues Special Practices Requirements documents per Departmental procedures.
  • Initiates PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) if required by the customer.
  • Reviews and approves / rejects practices, advising Customer Service and Production Planning of reasons for rejection.
  • Ensures that practices are designed and effectively deployed to meet customer requirements, while optimizing costs and profit potential.
  • Deploys effective change control to maintain product quality and manage and control risks to safety and process integrity.
  • Dispositions internal questionable material, determining if the material is usable by the customer.
  • Works with the production areas to investigate root cause and problem solve to root cause.
  • Dispositions customer claimed material
  • Works with Quality Systems to issue corrective action requests to responsible areas
  • Works with the area Operations Quality and Process Engineers to develop effective corrective actions.
  • Assigned as Single Point of Accountability (SPA) for customer accounts, with the expectation that travel to a customer’s location/and or host on-site visits to resolve claims and assist in new product development will at times be required.
  • Leads projects to optimize product quality and improve process yield and efficiency.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree Metallurgical / Materials Science Engineering is preferred
  • 1 year working experience in the in the aluminum industry, preferably in a rolling mill.
  • Must have strong communication skills and ability to communicate with all parties – customers, vendors, colleagues, superiors, etc.
  • Working knowledge of casting, rolling and finishing technology
  • Working knowledge of Aluminum Association Standards, alloys and tempers
  • Experience auditing to the ISO9001 or TS16949 or IATF 16949 standard
  • Experience with Measurement Systems Analysis
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification
  • Experience with APQP (advanced product quality planning), FMEA (failure mode and effects analysis), PPAP (production part approval process), and SPC (statistical process control)
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis programs (e.g. Minitab)
