Arconic is looking for a Product Metallurgical Engineer to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) business unit in Texarkana, TX.

The Product Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for reviewing customer specifications, on line practice approval, and the investigation of claims and rejections, leading to practices that meet customer quality requirements while at the same time minimizing cost through assuring maximum operational availability.  This position will require close customer contact, with the expectation that travel to a customer’s location will at times be required.
Job Description:
  • Review customer specifications and prepares formal letters of acceptance or exception;
  • Advises Sales, Marketing or Customer Service of product availabilities, recommending full Trial & Availabilities reviews for non-standard products;
  • Issues Special Practices Requirements documents per Departmental procedures;
  • Initiates PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) if required by the customer;
  • Reviews and approves/rejects practices, advising Customer Service and Production Planning of reasons for rejection;
  • Ensures that practices are designed and effectively deployed to meet customer requirements, while optimizing costs and profit potential;
  • Deploys effective change control to maintain product quality and manage and control risks to safety and process integrity;
  • Dispositions internal questionable material, determining if the material is usable by the customer;
  • Works with the production areas to investigate root cause and problem solve to root cause;
  • Dispositions customer claimed material;
  • Works with Quality Systems to issue corrective action requests to responsible areas;
  • Works with the area Operations Quality and Process Engineers to develop effective corrective actions;
  • Assigned as Single Point of Accountability (SPA) for customer accounts, with the expectation that travel to a customer’s location/and or host on-site visits to resolve claims and assist in new product development will at times be required;
  • Leads projects to optimize product quality and improve process yield and efficiency;
  • Assists Technical Account Managers and Application Engineers in the development and qualification of products;
  • Advises the Location of customer requirements resulting in the identification of new key processes requiring Process Management;
  • Monitors product characteristics for process capability to customer requirements and may act as Process Owner for assigned managed process(es);
  • Responsible for Maintaining the Quality Management System in the Cast House.  Updates and Approves all new SOPs and SOP changes.  Audits the processes for conformance to the ISO9001 standard;
  • The position impacts Arconic Lancaster’s ATOI through development of robust production practices, prevention / acceptance of customer claims, disposition of QMR material, and utilization of the new product development process.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or Material Science Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with aluminum materials;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the in the aluminum industry, preferably in a rolling mill;
  • Experience auditing to the ISO9001 or TS16949 or IATF 16949 standard;
  • Experience with Measurement Systems Analysis;
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE);
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification;
  • Experience with APQP (advanced product quality planning), FMEA (failure mode and effects analysis), PPAP (production part approval process), and SPC (statistical process control);
  • Experience with statistical analysis programs (e.g. Minitab).
