Arconic has an exciting opportunity for an Aerospace Product Development Engineer to work within Global Rolled Products (GRP). GRP is a dynamic global organization that offers the widest variety of aluminum plate and sheet in the world. GRP is made up of Arconic's rolling operations around the world and is Arconic's most global group with manufacturing and commercial sites in North America, Europe, South America, Asia, and Russia.

The Aerospace Product Development Engineer is within GRP's Product Technology group and is responsible for the execution of product technology efforts at Davenport USA and Kitts Green UK plants. The group works closely with Customers, Commercial, Operations, Arconic Engineered Structures, and the Arconic Technical Center. GRP’s Product Technology group will drive for rapid and sustained product development and commercialization to accelerate profitable growth and generate customer demand.

The position will be located at Arconic Davenport, IA and reports to the Global Rolled Products Aerospace Technology Manager. The Aerospace Product Development Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation into production of aluminum sheet and plate products for the aerospace and defense markets globally.

The primary purpose of this role is to be single point accountable for the development of new aerospace and defense products and their successful and profitable implementation into production. The role will own the development and execution of plant trials focused on commercialization of product offerings. The role will be responsible for organizing and managing all the activities associated with the development and launch of new products. This individual will also be working closely with all stakeholders. These primarily include Customers, Commercial Teams, GRP Plants, Arconic Technology Center, and Intellectual Property council

  • Develop, execute, and analyze design of experiments and product development trials focused on meeting business objectives
  • Drive the profitable and smooth implementation of new products from ingot to customer
  • Work with Quality Assurance organization to ensure products are “in-control and capable” through the product launch cycle
  • Work with Marketing to understand product strategy and ensure alignment with plant S&OP processes
  • Work closely with Production to ensure development execution meets critical deadlines and optimizes product manufacturability

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years engineering, project management, or research and development in a metals manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. Person status. ITAR defines U.S. Person status as an U.S. Citizen, U.S Permanent resident (i.e 'Green Card holder") Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An advanced degree
  • Knowledge specific to aluminum products and manufacturing processes in an aluminum rolling mill.
  • Knowledge of casting, hot rolling, cold rolling and heat-treating principles.
  • 5 years in a manufacturing technical role dealing with aluminum product development and commercial launch.
  • Communication skills across cultures and languages required
  • Results oriented driving for revenue, adjusted operating income, FCF and RONA growth
  • Willingness to depart from standard approaches and challenge the status quo
  • Knowledge of sheet and plate products and manufacturing processes including Casting, Rolling, Thermal operations and Finishing
  • Project management skills
