Job Description

Arconic Aluminum Extrusions (AEX) is seeking a full-time Process Engineer in the Extrusions department of our Lafayette Operations based in Lafayette, Indiana. The individual in this role will report to Quality and is responsible for utilizing engineering methodology and other technical expertise to evaluate, design, and implement process improvement projects and ensure process capability and efficiency of both new and existing production equipment. The Process Engineer will work with a team of manufacturing engineers to organize and lead plant efforts in transitioning new products and new production equipment, troubleshoot manufacturing and process problems, identify solutions with data-based decision making, and identify and implement new and improved methods of manufacturing to improve profitability.

Profile and Essential Functions: The Process Engineer will work with a team of manufacturing engineers to organize and lead plant efforts in transitioning new products and new production equipment, troubleshoot manufacturing and process problems, identify solutions with data-based decision making, and identify and implement new and improved methods of manufacturing to improve profitability. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•         Monitor overall process quality by conducting key quality process checks and review of process variables.
•         Drive recovery improvements on extruded products
•         Read and interpret blueprints and drawings
•         Perform time studies for various manufacturing processes and establish standards
•         Create/revise internal detail manufacturing drawings

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
 
•         Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
•         Production and Processing — production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
•         Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment — Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
•         Technology Design — Generating or adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs.
•         Systems Analysis — Determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
•         Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
•         Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
•         Visualization — The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
•         Time Management — Managing one's own time and the time of others with an acute sense of urgency.
•         Negotiation — Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences.
•         Problem Sensitivity — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
 
•         Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution.
•         Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing environment.
•         Employees must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.  
•         This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S> person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S> Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
•         Environmental, health, and safety experience in a manufacturing environment
•         Knowledge of ANSI standards and drawing practices
•         Knowledge and experience in applying lean manufacturing techniques
