Arconic is currently in search of an Process Control Systems Engineering Specialist to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) Operations business unit in Lancaster, PA.

The position exists to maintain and develop process control operating systems from a hardware and software perspective.   Process control operating systems control the operation of our production machinery and are integral to the production, quality, and safety or our production systems.
  • Maintain and develop process control systems; this can be driven by new product development for the plant as well as modifications to existing processes;
  • Perform system upgrades to keep current with hardware and software that is still supported by the manufacturer or developer;
  • Maintain the upkeep of process control computers, software licensing agreements, and backups of software files to minimize the downtime of manufacturing equipment;
  • Supply formatted data to the technical and process groups as requested. Timely access to this data is essential for the plant's quality management program and rapid problem solving;
  • Solve quality problems associated with process control systems and develop software to diagnose quality problems;
  • Provide support and on-call functions to assist in troubleshooting as required to minimize downtime of production operations;
  • Working knowledge of programming and interface techniques with various manufacturing shop floor control systems (e.g., programmable controllers (PLCs) and user interfaces (HMIs);
  • Work with department to develop and execute SMART Manufacturing Projects by increasing use of digital and physical automation across GRP;
  • Develop and help implement best practices for Operational Systems (L3 focused) that allow for Sustaining Gains and driving Continuous Improvement;
  • Improve existing Daily Management systems at all levels to spend less time getting the data and more time problem solving with the data;
  • Provide best practices regarding use of digital sensors to move to predictive reliability systems which will dramatically reduce unplanned downtimes;
  • Engage in initiatives for improving quality with improved data analytics including SQM, recipe controls, process controls, and digital thread;
  • Application of engineering and process control principles to manufacturing and facilities processes and equipment to enable safe and reliable operations and meet business objectives;
  • Work with the Center of Excellence (CoE) Operational Excellence and technology groups to ensure deployment of standard practices and technologies;
  • Willing to continually expand working knowledge and application of new hardware, software and programming techniques through training, vendor contacts and published media information;
  • Coordination of technical needs and services to provide common solutions and information sharing;
  • Conduct solid project management for deployment, support, or upgrade actions.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Management Information Systems from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 1 year of engineering experience with process control systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in development, programming, analyzing and troubleshooting industrial manufacturing automation systems;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with programming language skills in C;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with web applications using HTML, JavaScript, CSS and PHP;
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with Unix or Linux;
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a rolling mill manufacturing environment;
  • Experience developing functional specifications, architectural designs, detailed designs and software systems (applications) using structured programming techniques;
  • Strong working knowledge of PLCs;
  • C++ programming experience;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management;
  • Communicate with employees and customers at all levels.
