Arconic Fastening Systems (AFS) is seeking a Principal New Product Development Engineer at our aerospace manufacturing facility in the Carson, CA.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for designing and developing new products aerospace product assemblies and product families reducing global requirement to conceptual designs then detailed designs. Manage new product development projects from concept development to design/product definition, verification and validation. Analyze and understand complex information, product specification, and critical technical information. Able to scrutinize information providing succinct information on risks and proposed actions.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Designs and develops new products and product families with broad responsibilities to mature conceptual designs to well defined products with validated test results;
  • Creation of finite element models of components and assemblies and execution of analysis to assess and/or modify the characteristics of these components to meet design requirements;
  • Analyzes research data, prior art and relevant specifications to define the design space;
  • Conducts Advanced structural analysis including Linear contact FEA, Non-linear FEA ranging with non-linear material properties ideally Integrated multi-physics analysis;
  • Interacting with multidisciplinary development team to overcome obstacles and transition developments into functional products;
  • Conducts analysis of bolted joints or structural analysis of composite parts;
  • Participates in the preparation of invention reports and preparation of other documentation required to file and prosecute patents;
  • Prepares detailed manufacturing drawings demonstrating knowledge of relevant standards, including ASME Y14.5;
  • Managing and prioritizing multiple projects including detailed design development, fabrication and testing of prototypes;
  • Provide real-time, transparent communication covering overall status against agreed project timelines;
  • Communicate with customers, suppliers and development teams. Typical design details to be communicated include material selection, design for performance, risk analysis and specification compliance;
  • Document analysis objectives, conclusions, results, and assumptions;
  • Cooperatively work with test engineers to enhance laboratory procedures to support the development of first-time capable analysis techniques.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience;
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience Preparing detailed manufacturing drawings;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with ABAQUS, OPTISTRUCT, or NASTRAN;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with Parametric Solid Modeling;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment. eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
                                                                                              
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience with structural analysis of mechanical components and systems.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with meshing and post-processing software;
  • Experience in one of the following three areas: Aircraft Structural Durability, Machine design, Automated assembly or fastening;
  • Experience preparing detailed manufacturing drawings demonstrating knowledge of relevant standards, including ASME Y14.5;
  • Good understanding of non-linear analysis, failure theories and multi-axial fatigue and composites;
  • Experience with I-sight, Tosca or similar optimization software;
  • Experience with component and/or material mechanical testing;
  • Proficient in Parametric Solid Modeling – preferably in Solid Works;
  • Proficient with MATLAB & scripting.
