Arconic (NYSE: ARNC) is looking for a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Specialist to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) business unit in Davenport, IA.

Position description
This position is a NDT development training program. The candidate will be expected to attend training on multiple NDT methods including Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Electromagnetic Testing (ET) and Penetrant Testing (PT) as well as Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT). The incumbent should possess a level II certification in UT and will be expected to obtain level II certification in ET and PT within 3 years. The incumbent is expected to be able to obtain UT level III certification within 6 years. Hours are M-F days with possible call ins on weekends and evenings.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform calibrations of hand held ultrasonic test equipment to ASTM E317 and provide documentation of calibrations;
  • Perform verifications and calibrations of direct read hand held eddy current based conductivity equipment and provide documentation of calibrations;
  • Perform yearly certification of working conductivity standards and provide documentation;
  • Obtain ET level 1 then level 2 certification;
  • Obtain PT level 1 then level 2 certification;
  • Operate hand held eddy current test instruments to perform conductivity quench surveys and report results to plate mill metallurgists;
  • Operate hand held eddy current test instruments to determine product suitability in sheet as well as in plate products;
  • Monitor, standardize and troubleshoot automated eddy current crack detection system on various equipment. Assist NDT electrician as a technical resource when repairs are needed;
  • Monitor, standardize and troubleshoot automated EMAT thickness gages on various equipment. Assist NDT electrician as a technical resource when repairs are needed;
  • Set auto standardization positions on UT bridges;
  • Perform method A and method C penetrant inspections. Interpret results of porosity testing. Oversee hourly penetrant inspection trainees when qualified as level 2 PT;
  • Use EMAT gage to survey plate thickness for gage studies;
  • Participate in internal audits and learn to be an auditor. Learn about Nadcap, AS9100 and our QMS;
  • Gain basic metallurgical and process knowledge equivalent to that of a QSA.


Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution;
  • Current UT level 2 certified to NDT-PQ-100 or, NAS410 standards;
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in aluminum plate production/inspection;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
 
Preferred Requirements:
  • Some college credits;
  • Willingness to obtain AS and or BS degree in a technical field.
