Job Description

We are currently looking for a New Product Development Design Manager to join our Building and Construction Systems business unit in Norcross, GA.

Under the direction of the Director, Global Product Engineering, the New Product Development (NPD) Design Manager will lead a team of Design, Drafting and Technical Literature professionals responsible for fenestration product design, enhancements and maintenance from concept to manufacturing readiness. This individual will work cross-functionally in the business to assure appropriate collaboration and execution takes place to meet major milestones and project fulfillment.


Major activities/Key challenges:
  • Responsible and accountable for the Design, Drafting and Technical Literature teams supporting the NA NPD organization
  • Provide Design technical oversight and direction for team members
  • Establish annual goals with team members; evaluate their performance, identify opportunities, write and give quarterly and end of year performance reviews
  • Educate and coach design team in the deployment of best practice design methodologies such as Design for Six Sigma, Quality Functional Deployment and DFx
  • Write and post cadence reports to keep leadership apprised of developments
  • Work with cross-functional departments to develop the product road map, product definition and technical requirements to meet the product margin and project cost objectives
  • Assist with timelines and deliverables associated with new product development and improvement projects
  • Ensures area of responsibility complies with most current standards and guidelines
  • Assist in POC and Validation testing trouble-shooting and interpreting test data
  • Leads design and customer facing documentation deliverables in the form of Engineering Change Orders
  • Develops and monitors department KPI’s and fosters a mindset of continuous improvement
  • Recommend testing protocols and test plans
  • Support strategic and continuous improvement initiatives, including maturity of the Model-Based Product Definition
  • Contribute to Engineering Knowledge Base and promote deployment and use across Kawneer locations
  • Review material specifications, vendor data and qualification test results of vendor components
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Major Customers: Product Management team, Manufacturing and Front-End teams, Product Development teams


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in Engineering Product Development.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ managerial experience.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or civil engineering.
  • Master's degree in Management.
  • Experience working in a lean / continuous improvement / 6 sigma environments.
  • Practitioner knowledge of New Product Development processes, methods and tools.
  • Conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Design and Engineering Documentation best practices.
  • Demonstrate experience and possess skills in mathematics, mechanical sciences, problem solving, project management, and research study.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
