Arconic Engines is seeking a Process Engineering Metallurgist to lead alloy, product and process development and improvement projects to support the business to achieve established processing and financial targets. This role will involve working collaboratively with Engineering, Operations and other office personnel to improve processes in order to maintain efficiency, reduce cost, and improve quality of the product to ensure customer requirements are met. This position is located at our aerospace forged rings plant in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the metallurgical and dimensional processes associated with the production of seamless rolled rings and other open-die forgings.
  • Investigate and conduct experiments concerned with physical characteristics, properties, and processing of metals to develop methods of commercially manufacturing forgings from primarily Ferrous, Aluminum, Titanium and Nickel base alloys.
  • Consult with Engineers and the Operations personnel to develop methods of manufacturing at minimum costs, and to implement robust shop floor instructions.
  • Support Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction activities as directed.
  • Other assigned tasks

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical documents, including design drawings or blueprints.
  • Ability to make effective presentations to operations, engineering and management.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Effective project management skills including managing cost and time constraints.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 months experience with metals
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of Engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience in Aerospace forging using titanium and/or nickel based super alloys
  • Familiar with metallurgical lab work, lab equipment, and interpretation of macro and microstructures relevant to the Ferrous, Titanium and Nickel based alloys.
  • Experience with Quality systems and specifications
  • Advanced skill with MS Excel; Minitab experience preferred.
  • Direct experience with seamless rolled rings.
