The primary purpose of the Metallurgical Engineer is to provide technical and quality leadership in the operations area of the Horizontal Ingot Cast House Facility in Barberton, Ohio. The position reports to the AWTP Quality Director with indirect reporting to the Barberton Cast House Plant Manager. The incumbent will work with local leadership, Arconic Technical Center, the Center of Excellence (CoE) and the equipment manufacturer to develop technical, quality and operating processes and procedures which will be utilized in the Cast House.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist and Conduct training of supervisor's and operators, driving process start-up and improvement activities, assisting in the procurement of raw materials, development/implementation of safe work practices and eventually assisting in quality improvement, cost reduction and increased efficiency projects/activities;
  • Provide guidance to suppliers for proper problem-solving techniques such as 8D, 7 Step, 5 Principles, etc.;
  • Assist suppliers with new model development and launch including a full understanding of the automotive APQP process leading to on time launch with focus on the PPAP;
  • Possess a working knowledge of Quality Systems such as ISO9000 and IATF16949 and the ability to work with supply base to continuously improve their systems resulting in improved product/service quality and reduced cost;
  • Provide technical knowledge to support ingot casting recovery improvement projects after start-up;
  • Act as liaison between the forging plants and outside sources to communicate issues and solutions for problem resolution and continuous improvement;
  • Assist in the implementation of external and internal systems to drive continuous improvement in the Cast house and the CVW/FSW flow path;
  • Drive advanced quality planning throughout the subcontractors;
  • Assisting in the procurement of raw materials;
  • Training of new supervisor's and operators;
  • Assisting with R&D activities;
  • Providing metallurgical assistance to other Arconic Wheel Facilities.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or Corrosion Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Has completed previous internship or co-op in engineering or quality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years aluminum molten metal processing experience in horizontal and/or vertical casting.
