As a Melt Shop Utility Operator you will safely operate equipment and assist in Melt Shop activities to produce product by performing the following duties. (Other duties may be assigned as necessary by Supervisor.)

• Communicates with production supervisor, lead operator, and floor operations personnel.
• Performs bobcat and tow motor inspection checklist prior to use.
• Heat/raw material preparation.
• Loads prepared heats (raw material) into feed system to keep furnace stocked with material.
• Perform pre-start furnace inspection and maintenance checklist
• Control and operate electric induction furnace
• Pour molten metal into mold(s)
• Uses crane to transport desired mold(s)
• Breaks up material with jackhammer or sledgehammer as needed.
• Pulls samples of material from each heat and labels material with identification tags.
• Weighs and marks product with identifying label(s)
• Communicates with other operators to record data on production sheet.
• Transports finished material to designated staging area.
• Cleans and maintains desired mold(s), tundish and casters.
• Maintains temperatures on ladles and casters.
• Operates overhead crane.
• Slag removal (Barring & Raking)
• Weight, package and mark finished product with identifying labels
• Remove slag (barring and raking)
• Clean and maintain work area and equipment
• Clean and patch furnace linings, remove and replace as necessary
• Visually monitor lining condition
• Complete PM’s and assists maintenance with minor repairs.

Work Environment: The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions.

• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
• Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision**
