Arconic Fastening Systems is looking for a Mechanical Research Engineer who will drive New Product Development designs. This will include concept development to design/product definition, verification, and validation. This position is located at our aerospace manufacturing facility in Carson, CA.

NPD Engineer Essential Functions:
Responsible for designing and developing new products and product families reducing global requirement to conceptual designs then detailed designs. Manage new product development projects from concept development to design/product definition, verification and validation. Analyze and understand complex information, product specification, and critical technical information. Able to scrutinize information providing succinct information on risks and proposed actions.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Designs and develops new products and product families reducing global requirement to conceptual designs then detailed designs;
  • Analyzes research data, prior art and relevant specifications to define the design space;
  • Collaborates with team members to select materials, processes and tooling. ;
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and validate design;
  • Works under the direction of a Sr. Engineer or Engineering Manager to manage new product development projects from concept development to design/product definition, verification and validation;
  • Participates in the preparation of invention reports and preparation of other documentation required to file and prosecute patents;
  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings;
  • Coordinates building of prototype product;
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs, coordinates test programs;
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications;
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to design product and simulate performance.


Basic Requirements:
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field;
  • Experience conducting research in university graduate level in the fields of computational mechanics or related disciple and with scientific research methods and their implications at different stages of the development process;
  • Experience working on a team-based development project;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of working experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Working knowledge of fabrication processes relevant to aerospace;
  • Advance working knowledge of relevant engineering applications, technical reading and writing; knowledge of manufacturing.
