Arconic Fastening Systems (AFS) is seeking a Mechanical Controls Engineer, New Product Development at our aerospace manufacturing facility in Carson, CA.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for designing and developing new products for aerospace industry.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Designs and develops new products and product families including control systems by reducing global requirement to conceptual designs then detailed designs.
  • Select, specify and design and integrates sensor-based measurement devices to measure and analyze force, displacement and time for manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborates with team members to perform the detailed design for automated systems by converting and system requirements into detailed design, purchase requisitions, drawing, programs and functional descriptions.
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and validate design.
  • Participates in the preparation of invention reports and preparation of other documentation required to file and prosecute patents.
  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings.
  • Select, specify and design the installation of control devices to manipulate position force, speed and other variables.
  • Plans and develops experimental test programs, coordinates test programs.
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to control systems and simulate performance.
  • Implement data transfer methodology that maximizes throughout and ensures data integrity using communication protocols and specifications.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years engineering experience.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment, eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the Internal Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), which requires US person status.  ITAR defines U.S. as U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., Green Card holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or electrical engineering with a focus on control systems or robotics, or related technical discipline. 
  • Minimum of 3 years engineering experience as a design engineer.
