This 1st shift Materials Technician position will be located in the Howmet Research Center (HRC) within the Engineering Services Group in Whitehall, MI.  Primary Responsibilities will include:
  • Plan, conduct and facilitate materials characterization tasks in support of department goals.
  • Examine and document samples using optical microscopy.
  • Section, mount, polish and etch microscopy samples.
  • Author technical reports effectively detailing findings of investigations.
  • Collaborate with lab personnel and technical teams at production facilities to identify process anomalies and root causes
  • Other duties, as assigned


Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an associate degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in metallography or materials characterization environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics field
  • 2+ years metallography or materials characterization laboratory experience
  • Experience in high temperature metallurgy.
  • Self-starter, strong interpersonal skills and ability to excel within a team environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
