Building and Construction Systems, a business unit of Arconic, is the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry. Primary Purpose of the Job
As a part of the Major Projects Team located in Harrisonburg, VA, the Materials Planner is responsible for reviewing orders, ensuring we have the material we need to produce the orders, and sequencing orders in an efficient and cost effective manner to enable continuity in production for optimal customer satisfaction.
Major Activities/Key Challenges
  • Processes purchase orders for material goods and for Technical Services (Drafting/Engineering/Take Off);
  • Researches, negotiates, and answers supplier inquiries;
  • Problem solves and resolves accounting questions related to PO's/Invoice discrepancies;
  • Reconciles Technical Services invoicing and processing payments to the accounting department;
  • Collaborates with team members to conduct wire transfers for various projects as needed;
  • Works with the Trade Compliance Team on import/export questions and resolves any issues;
  • Tracks shipments and assists with any questions to ensure materials clear at border crossing;
  • Arranges transportation logistics (traditional and expedited) for domestic and international shipments (ex Canada to US on 1901L);
  • Prepares the necessary paperwork (ex. load request forms) for expedited/tracked shipments;
  • Provides overall support for Project Managers with import/export set-up and tracking of transportation (standard and expedited);
  • Other duties as assigned.
 Essential Knowledge/Skills & Education
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills;
  • Comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process and work flows;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others while ensuring results to meet deadlines;
  • Effective, clear and concise communication skills;
  • Negotiation and influencing skills;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • JDEdwards experience is preferred.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain (Procurement), Finance, or Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a construction, manufacturing, or procurement;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Procurement experience with, working knowledge of Construction Materials, MRP, ERP (JD Edwards preferred);
  • 2 + years Procurement or related experience in a manufacturing or related business;
  • Professional certifications (CPM, APICS, P.E.) a benefit.
