Job Description

Arconic Fastening Systems is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who is responsible for continuous improvement of manufacturing processes by improving work design, flow of materials, and through training and coaching of employees in use of continuous improvement tools, leading to improved safety, productivity, quality, and lead time. This position will be located in Dover, NJ.

Environmental Health & Safety Responsibilities:
  • Expected to assist in the implementation of Arconic Power and Propulsion’s value and policy statement and its accompanying principles;
  • Comply with all department, facility, Corporate and Regulatory EH&S regulations;
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment;
  • Report all job-related illness and injuries (per employee handbook);
  • Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner;

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conceives, evaluates and implements problem solving activities, cost reduction initiatives, lead time reduction projects, and part/process improvement activities;
  • Trains and coaches other employees in continuous improvement tools and concepts;
  • Leads projects including defining scope, cost justification, developing project plans, managing implementation, and monitoring results;
  • Improves processes of critical and complex aerospace components
  • Ensures Standardized Work Development;
  • Conducts time studies;
  • Develops cell layouts and work design and documents in standardized work to Coaches operators and department leaders in use of standards and cells;
  • Waste Elimination;
  • Observes processes and collects and analyzes data to identify waste;
  • Eliminates waste through root cause problem solving and rapid experimentation;
  • Works with other resources as needed (engineering, quality, maintenance, etc.) to eliminate observed waste;
  • Works to identify and eliminate ergonomic and safety issues;
  • Supports development and improvement of fixtures and tooling;
  • Trains operators and other employees in problem solving methodology, 5S, and other improvement tools;
  • Facilitates and leads problem solving and kaizen teams;
  • Contacts other locations to ensure sharing of best practices;
  • Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Efficient analytical and problem-solving skills.  Working knowledge of computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Office products, graphics, and statistical analysis software).

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder').
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Manufacturing/Industrial Engineer in a manufacturing environment;
  • Experience with lean manufacturing concepts;
  • Six Sigma Green Belt.
