Arconic Fastening Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to investigate and resolve work-in-process problems; and to develop and refine manufacturing processes. This position is located at our aerospace manufacturing plant in Sylmar, CA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides engineering support and leads problem solving/troubleshooting events. Implements timely solutions to maintain the continuity of production flow.
  • Designs manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters.
  • Responsible for maintenance of material specifications, product drawings, routing sheets and manufacturing procedures.
  • Design and debugging of manufacturing processes and tooling for headers, rollers , drillers etc.
  • Continuous improvement of tooling and methods.
  • Support reduction of set-up time.
  • Work hand-in-hand with production technicians to enhance manufacturing processes and troubleshoot issues.
  • Serve as a resource for technical guidance to manufacturing personnel.
  • Determine root cause of persistent problems and lead implementation of fixes.
  • Justification of new production facilities.
  • Getting new facilities “on line”.
  • Support Quality System Improvement.
  • Interfaces with other manufacturing departments to address and resolve engineering issues.
  • Interfaces with vendors and outside sales personnel to evaluate, cost estimate, and select parts or equipment.
  • Support marketing in the event of product application problems in the customer structure.
  • Support employee training.
  • Analyze and prepare capital equipment justifications.
  • Work in a safe manner that promotes the health and well-being of the individual and the environment.
  • Comply with all EHS rules and regulations and supervisory instructions.
  • Report all incidents including injuries, spills, fires, property damage, and near misses to their supervisor.

  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers and employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs; strong Excel proficiency

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited Institution
  • Minimum 5 years of Engineering experience in manufacturing
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering, from an accredited institution
  • Experience with precision machined metal forming manufacturing
  • Experience with product and process failure analysis
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as lean manufacturing, JIT, SPC, TQM, etc.
  • Experience in aerospace industry
  • Experience in the fastener manufacturing industry
  • Experience and proficiency with SolidWorks
  • Experience with ERP systems
