Accountability Objectives

Under the direction of the Corporate Director of Manufacturing Intelligence and Smart Manufacturing, this position is accountable for leading a team of data scientists and partner with manufacturing process experts and automation leaders to enable the advance of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) in Arconic factories.
 
  • Lead Data Science strategy and deployment in Arconic manufacturing locations that are sensors data rich and ready for the analytics and machine learning stage
  • Partner with Physical and Digital Automation personnel to align Data Science and automation projects.  Collaborate with Alcoa Technical Center, Process Engineering, and IT department to utilize hidden potential in the manufacturing systems.
  • Lead Data Scientists to organize, create and analyze large-scale historian and SQL data sets. This role provides the opportunity to inject ideas and influence a growing data driven culture and gain operational experience with Big Data.
  • Lead manufacturing related projects which include data capture, data analytics, modeling and computations, and close-loop control processing.  This includes dynamically change set points through hardware and software and running analytics with embedded controllers on the edge.
  • Lead smart manufacturing related projects and participate in rapid deployment teams to enable process optimization and increased manufacturing performance
 
Job Dimensions:
The primary purpose of this position is to lead end to end data science strategy in manufacturing environment, including data pull, analytics, algorithms and modelling, and machine learning deployment.
 
  • Experience with the end-to-end data science workflow, from problem definition, to model development, to deployment of IIOT devices
  • A deep understanding of time series analysis and regression analysis
  • A working knowledge of manufacturing processes including process controls and IIOT devices
  • A working knowledge of data historian, workflow engines, Matlab, Neural Networks, R, Python, Azure
  • A working knowledge with edge computing, ENatural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Conceptual modelling, Statistical analysis & Predictive modeling
  • Experience with project management, process management and optimization
  • Interests in keeping with new technology and trends in Industry 4.0
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English

Travel:
 
Expected Travel is estimated to be 10% and would be sporadic based on the need to support data analytics within the deployment of Rapid Improvement Teams to support other business units and locations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Automation, Information Technology/Science, Mathematics or Computer Science from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 7 years combined data science and automation experience in manufacturing or operations industry
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Quantitative field, including Engineering, Automation, Information Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science
  • Previous management experience with 3 or more employees
  • Edge computing experience
  • Industrial Data Science experience, with expertise in advanced controls and machine learning
  • Significant experience in data analysis from multiple source types and applying organization specific know-how to achieve key operating results. 
  • Manufacturing experience with operational data and metrics
