Arconic is seeking Machinists to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX)  business unit in Lafayette, IN.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, dismantle, repair, assemble, fabricate and service tools or equipment.
Materials Used, Processed and Handled
  • Metallic and non-metallic parts, equipment and materials.  Plastics, fiber, rubber, lubricants, coolants, solvents, lapping compounds.
Tools and Equipment
  • Lathes, grinders, milling machines, shapers, planers, boring mills, drill press, saws, welding and burning equipment.
  • Micrometers, scales, clippers, gages.
  • Miscellaneous hand tools such as hammer, wrench, chisel, file, screwdriver, punch, scribe, French curve, dividing head.
  • Industrial truck, pendant controlled crane, cherry picker, hoist, hand truck.
Duties and Working Procedures
  • Work from drawings, sketches or specification to set up and operate machine tools to fabricate or repair parts and equipment.
  • Must be willing to work any shift
  • Make layouts and sketches.
  • Determine cause of equipment malfunctions.
  • Install, assemble, dismantle and repair equipment.
  • Maintain plant air compressors.
  • Determine and obtain required materials.
  • Operate industrial truck, pendant controlled crane, cherry picker.
  • Adjust and repair plant measuring instruments.
  • Weld, cut and braze with gas or electric equipment.
  • Keep records and report production data.
  • Daily sign off on safety inspections for cranes and trucks.
  • Equipment and duties from all deleted maintenance jobs.
  • Air compressor with load/unload controls.
  • Order parts and operating supplies through computer (VAX) system.
  • Chemical parts cleaning tanks.
  • Belt grinders.
  • Large horizontal mill.  Fully computer controlled 44’ X 16’ travel.
  • Universal iron workers multi-shear and punch press.
  • Centralized lubrication systems.
  • Six inch portable boring machine.
  • Laser alignment. 
Basic Qualifications:
  • The minimum requirements are 5 years journey persons experience maintaining heavy equipment with a working knowledge of welding, machine repair, millwright, hydraulics, sheet metal, pipe fitting, and blue prints.
  • The preferred candidates will be graduates of an approved apprentice program or have formal technical training beyond high school, - Or a Journeyman’s card (A Department of Labor Certificate or Equal). Testing and a skills demonstration will be required. Permanent employment subject to probation period not to exceed 6 months.
  • If you are currently working as a general mechanic, proof of experience and/or a copy of your Journeyman’s card must accompany your bid.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S> person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S> Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
