Job Description

Arconic is currently in search of a Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement Specialist, internally known as an Arconic Business Systems Specialist (ABS) to join our Global Rolled Product (GRP) Operations business unit in Lancaster, PA.
 
Lancaster Works specializes in aluminum sheet and cast plate. At our 1.3 million square-foot plant, we offer a variety of products--from painted sheet to blanked products. What we produce here is found in a wide assortment of end products, such as truck cabs, cookware and construction materials. We also produce brazing sheet used by auto manufacturers to make evaporator and condenser components. Another capability, for which we are well known, is the production of machined cast plate used in a number of diverse products, ranging from robotics to medical instruments.
 
The main purpose of this position is to teach, coach and drive continuous improvement through partnership with all and various functions across Lancaster Mill Products and by eliminating all types of waste and application of Arconic Business System.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Take a proactive role in promoting and practicing Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement-Arconic Business Systems (ABS) concepts and philosophies within his/her span of control and responsibility.
  • Acts as an ABS resource in assigned areas to:
    • Proactively assist and participate in identifying all types of waste by advocating, coaching, practicing and leading the implementation of various Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement techniques.
    • Assist in collecting data and preparing and developing improvement projects at the Plant and department/area levels.
    • Coach and work together with organization leaders in sustaining and utilizing the ABS/Reliability Excellence (REX) and other continuous improvement systems.
    • Proactively assist in leading and maintaining central ABS/REX systems.
    • Assist in sharing learnings between the areas within the plant, and transferring knowledge from other sites within and outside of the BU.
    • Develop own personal ABS, REX and other improvement skills and actively participate in teaching and coaching the rest of the plant in continuous improvement training programs.
The ABS Specialist tasks are directly connected to the financial gains that are expected from continuous improvement projects. As such, the ABS Specialist will proactively advocate and participate in raising project ideas which formally measure the impact of “growth” improvement activities. Furthermore, the ABS Specialist will assist and participate in identifying cost reduction and capital expenditure opportunities that exist in areas that are supported by ABS.
 
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Understanding and exposure to ABS principles, Waste Elimination and Continuous Improvement activities or projects
  • Experience with one or more of the following techniques: Kaizen, 5S, Problem solving techniques, Leaders Standardized work, Standardized Work, Pokayoke (Fail safing and Error proofing), TPM.
  • Basic computer skills with intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Power Point, and analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3 months exposure to a manufacturing, manufacturing support or engineering environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
