Position Profile:
Employee(s) under this classification generally spends the entire day in the Machining Operations Department setting up various CNC machines. This is a select position that requires prerequisite skills to be demonstrated through the interviewing process and previous work performed in the machining department. The Lead Machinist requires the ability to oversee multiple processes as dictated by scheduling demands and needs.

Essential Functions: This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities, and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) may and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
  • Oversees the execution of the daily Machining Schedule as directed by the Operations Supervisor(s).
  • Assists in setting up jobs on all parts to a high degree of accuracy and dependability.
  • Perform production Machinist roles as necessary.
  • Maintain dimensional accuracy during the machining process by using precision measuring instruments.
  • Application of shop mathematics to perform accurate set-ups on all the machine tools. (More advanced setups may require geometric and trigonometric formulas to achieve highly accurate setups.)
  • Use chip-cutting principles (tooling selection/control speeds and feeds, etc.) to efficiently and safely machine discs into prescribed tolerances/dimensions.
  • Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Adjust machine feeds and speeds, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls as necessary.
  • Possess a firm knowledge of G and M code programming, and the ability to read/write basic programs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use Mazatrol.
  • Understand GD&T and how it relates to machine setup.
  • Exhibit an advanced knowledge of tooling, fixturing and indexable inserts.
  • Insert basic edits into programming for tool changes, coolant codes, etc. when needed.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality controls, costs and other techniques associated with proper machining principles.
  • Perform basic general administrative duties when necessary including email daily work performed, create maintenance work orders, fill out setup change requests, etc.
  • Computer proficient (word, excel, TROPOS, Q-pulse) and possess good math and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all members of management both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate good decision-making ability, and excel in a team environment.
  • Possess a strong work ethic with the ability to produce high quality work with very little supervision.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Microsoft Office Suite — The ability to understand, navigate, manipulate and create, Excel, Word, PowerPoint documents as well as the Outlook platform.
  • Mathematical Skills — Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Interpret graphs and analyze temperature data.

Physical Demands:
  • Often required to wear common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hats.

Work Location/Environmental Requirements: Nickel and titanium manufacturing facility. Exposure to: moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold, extreme heat, vibration; loud noise level

Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Machine Operator with Arconic
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to operate an overhead crane, forklift and man lift to O.S.H.A. approval standards.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
