Arconic is looking for a Lead Engineer to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) business unit in Davenport, IA.

The principal purpose of the Lead Engineer is the performance and support of Sheet Finishing Department project work for the specification, procurement, design, installation and checkout of new or major modifications to existing process equipment.  Coordinating this work with the other departments and plant engineers as necessary, purchasing and equipment vendors are extremely important aspects of the job.  Another important area of the position is serving as a resource for others in areas of his experience and expertise.  Additionally, this position will support the operations of Sheet Finishing through daily management, problem solving efforts in both production and maintenance. The major challenge of this position is to provide sound engineering work in a variety of situations and to maintain a high level of technical expertise for the types of equipment currently being installed on Arconic process equipment.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Recommends technical and procedural policy changes and implements Company policy;
  • Plans, schedules and coordinates equipment installations and revisions and acts as project engineer for major projects;
  • Determines scope of and supervises design projects;
  • Coordinates engineering activities in his/her area with operating, maintenance and other engineering personnel;
  • Evaluates and recommends improvements in existing facilities;
  • Prioritizes direct report workload;
  • Controls project scope and costs as authorized;
  • Communicates with immediate supervisor and other department personnel regarding activities and problems in his/her assigned area;
  • Works with minimum supervision and direction of Lead Area Manager;
  • Writes and/or approves engineering specifications, estimates, designs, requests for authorization, etc;
  • Assists in preparing capital expenditures forecast;
  • Provides technical assistance to maintenance and operating and in areas of special knowledge to the corporate office and other plants;
  • Analyzes process and operating requirements and initiates the solutions;
  • Prepares reports on special projects;
  • Keeps abreast of latest technical developments in assigned area;
  • Relates theoretical concepts to production situations;
  • Participates in project safety reviews, safety inspections and other applicable safety programs;
  • Trains less experienced engineers and trains maintenance personnel on new and revised equipment;
  • Works with Production to develop new products and/or processes as well as make existing process more efficient;
  • Investigate, analyze, define the problem, develop solutions and select the most economical, functional and safe method of maintaining, adding or modifying manufacturing process equipment in his/her assigned area;
  • Accurately prepare time and cost estimates, schedules and requests for authorization for assigned projects;
  • Thoroughly and promptly plan all facets of a project, coordinate design, incorporate project safety reviews, obtain materials and monitor installation with plant maintenance and outside contract forces.  This includes project follow-up such as spare parts, safety inspections, preventive maintenance and lubrication schedules;
  • Participate in forecasting, planning, cost offset programs, maintenance support, operating support, exercising applicable safety tools defined in Core and in training less experienced engineers;
  • Performs project engineering work including (but not limited to) work scope, schedules, system configuration, equipment specification and installation design with field follow-up;

  • Communicates to other engineers and production personnel about activities;
  • Serves as a resource to other engineers in areas of expertise and experience
  • Maintaining an awareness of current mechanical engineering technology and appropriate application to Arconic’s process equipment;
  • Providing consultation on major mechanical equipment configuration and problems;
  • Handles engineer coordination with primary outside engineering contracts for all engineering.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Experience with reliability engineering;
  • Experience with investigation, specification, design, funding, installation, tune up, documentation, maintenance set up and statistical start up;
  • Experience with budgeting processes, including R/A preparation, project tracking, project reporting and budget management;
  • Experience with the application of statistical quality control such as statistical process control, availability studies, short and long term capability studies and designed experiments.
